differential extension shaft coupler

The workshop manual states the differential extension shaft coupler should not be removed. Whilst replacing the differential extension shaft oil seal, the coupler fell off. Does anyone know the correct orientation of the coupler. There is obviously a correct way as the the coupler is not symmetrical. Many thanks

The end with the deep recess to the splines goes to the extension shaft.
