I have a p6v8, 1969. It is badged up as a 3500S round dial dashboard, V8S wheel trims, vinyl roof, plastic grille, etc.Everything about it suggests it is a 3500S, although everywhere i have looked says that this model was not made until later! Have checked the chassis number which says it was an automatic(has 5speed SD1 box ini t it now). Can anyone shed any light on what this actually is? Is it a 3500S or a 3500 that somebody has gone to great lengths to make look like an "S" ?

Hmm, is the chassis number stamped into the shell, or on a small welded plate ?

How wide is the tranny tunnel?

The auto is really wide and you would probably be suspicous of it.What does the V5 say?

What you may have is a ringer or a clone to give it another name. I think a car made in 1969 would be a series 1, which as metal grill and a bonnet without bulges.

I don't think the majority of 'S' qualify for free road tax (pre Jan 31st 1973) so obviously if you have a later car and switch plates then you have just saved £175 a year and commited fraud and a few road traffic offenses.

Do you know the engine number? it should be on the near side front near the dip stick, the engine may have came with the gearbox out of an SD1 but it may be the original.

can you take any photo's?

What you may have is a 3500's' with a 5 speed conversion registred as a '69 car. or it may be a 3500 auto with a 5 manual box registered as a '69 car, does the chassis number match the year of registration?

This is just my opinion and I am not saying that you have been sold a ringer but I would investigate further.

There is a few option you can look at to narrow it down. Try and get the serial number off of the diff, there may also be a build tag behind the rear seat backs, if there is one it will tell you colour and interior trim which may also help narrow you actual year of build.

Another thing. is the glass plain or does it have a green tint to it?

Cheers for the advice, will check a few things when im back in country. The car has p6 owners club sticker in the window, so someone might know of it. Reg DVW 216G, white with huntsman roof.

"G" registration would make it a Three Thousand Five which was only available as an automatic. I have seen several early cars converted to 5 speed with "S" badges added (a common mod' then!)

Hello,

Far fetched, but perhaps your car started out as one of the few NADA 3500S models that due to lack of sales success in the US were sold in the UK. But even then, either the factory or one of the previous owners must have gone through quite a hassle in updating its looks.

Does your car have AC and/or electric windows operaed from a row of switches in the centre console above the speaker grille?

Hope this helps,
Klaus

HI,
WHATS THE LATEST NEWS ON YOUR CONFUSED CAR!! :O ??? GOOD OR BAD,LET US KNOW!!! :D

Checked all the numbers, i reckon its a three thousand five that was restored /modified to look like a 3500s a few years ago as there is a folder full of reciepts for parts. No worries there
