IVE JUST COME BACK FROM MY M.O.T, AND THE MOT MAN WAS NOT AT ALL HAPPY, THAT MY CHASSIS NUMBER ID PLATE WAS MISSING!! I TOOK THE LOGBOOK ETC WITH ME ,BUT HE "WAS" GOING TO FAIL IT BECAUSE OF THIS!!!! I POINTED OUT TO HIM THAT ANY CAR BUILT B4 ABOUT 1980 THAT HAS ITS I.D PLATE MISSING, EITHER VIA RUSTY SPOT WELDS OR CORRODED RIVETS, EVEN IF IT IS ALSO NOT VISIBLY STAMPED ONTO THE BODYWORK,DUE TO RUST REPAIRS, DOES NOT NEED TO DISPLAY A CHASSIS NUMBER FOR THE MOT! HE DULY CHECKED HIS BIBLE OF RULES,AND HAS NOW LEARNT SOMETHING NEW , AND HE HAS PASSED THE CAR, BUT HE FELT HE HAD TO PUT AN ADVISORY NOTE ON THE FORM. I WANT TO GET A NEW PLATE MADE,TO AS NEAR ORIGINAL STYLE AS POSSIBLE!!!! DOES ANYBODY KNOW, WHERE,WHO, CAN DO IT FOR ME??? DAVE ??? WELL, IVE HAD 30 ODD VIEWERS SO FAR, 06/05..1900hrs AND NOBODY AS YET HAS AN ANSWER!!! THE ANSWER IS....42!!!!. MAYBE THAT!! WILL BE 'MY' LUCKY VIEWER NUMBER!! :D

Dave,
There are quite a few companies who remanufacture these type of plates, or you can make one up yourself using the correct type of lettering stamps. One famous company-the name of which escapes me!!- usually have all sorts of under bonnet information plates for almost every type of car, and if they don`t make the one you need they soon will with enough interest!
Anyhoo, check this out on ebay...8061746650

Not the exact thing you need, but would do the job I`m sure.

Cheers, Drew :D

WELL IVE MADE MY OWN CHASSIS PLATE!! JUST A SCRAP PIECE OF METAL,TRIMMED TO SIZE AND STAMPED WITH THE NUMBER,IVE SPRAYED IT WITH SILK BLACK AND AGED IT A BIT WITH A WOODEN BLOCK!! I HAD TO USE STD TYPE STAMPS,AS I CANNOT FIND "ANYWHERE" WITH THE REVERSE TYPE STAMPS TO MAKE IT LOOK REALLY "ORIGINAL". IVE NOW MANAGED TO GET TO MY MIG, SO I CAN SPOT/PLUG WELD IT INTO THE ORIGINAL' ISH POSITION. FORTUNATELY, THIS IS THE ONLY WELDING IVE HAD TO DO THIS YEAR!!! IT WAS NOT NEEDED FOR ITS MOT,AS IT IS A PRE 82 CAR, BUT, IT WAS PUT DOWN AS AN ADVISORY NOTE, THAT IT WAS MISSING! :D

A friend of mine took his Almond V8 for it's MOT test last year, and the guy failed it on the grounds of the inner sills being weak. Guess where he had jacked it to check the front ball joints and wheel bearings? Yeap, straight under the inner sills. I had great fun straightening that mess out for him ???

HI RICHARD.HAVE GOT YOURE MESSAGE RE THE P5 CENTER BADGES,"REPLY TO FOLLOW". MY MOT MAN "COUNCIL RUN DEPOT" IS VERY GOOD WITH ALL CLASSICS, HE TAKES ON BOARD AND LISTENS TO ANY USEFUL IDEAS, TIPS, RECOMENDATIONS, AND WILL ONLY JACK A CAR UP ON A SUBFRAME OR VERY SOLID BIT, NEVER!!EVER!! ON JUST THE BODYSHELL. ONE MOT CHAP DID THAT ON A XJ6 OF MINE IN 1986, AND BENT IN THE P/S AND D/S FLOORPANS! HE THEN SAID IT WAS WEAK!! AND FAILED IT!! WELL, WITH 2 TON OF CAR ON IT, IT WOULD BE, SO I TOLD THE MINISTRY ,AND ENDED UP WITH ALL THE DAMAGE REPAIRED AT A MAIN DEALERS BODYSHOP AT THEIR EXPENSE, AND MY MOT PASS
