Austin rover/mg series transplant - Montego turbo engine - yes or no

Recently i noticed a similarity between the gearbox housing on my 2000 tc and that of a montego turbo engine i have. As my tc engine has low miles and runs great i am reluctant to pull it out but im wondering.... Is a single carb turbo o series transplant an option?

cheers,

Alan

I'm considering using the rover 820 m/t series turbo engine in a p6 at some stage and have done a little research on this.
The O series bottom end is basicaly the same as the m/t series so the same info applies.

The answer is that you can fit the 5 speed gearbox from a 2000 sd1 straight to the o series for rear drive. Same box in the sherpa etc..., and this is basically the same as the normal sd1 5 speed but with a different bellhousing.

The engine wouldn't bolt straight up to the p6 gearbox, but there should be plenty of room for the O series and box in there. Personally I wouldn't try it with a valuable p6, maybe practice on a "freebie" to get the fitting right, then transplant to your prefered car.

Well, as mine is currently undergoing a delicate overhall - some welding, bodywork etc im not too keen to get brutal especially as my tc has pretty low mileage and is in reasonable condition..

I have, however got an uncontrollable urge....

must resist!

Cheers,

Alan
