79 cm wide Weathershield visor/deflector

Hi everybody

This MIGHT be a bit too early, but as I am thinking about SO many things right now, I want this one off the list:

The above item on Jimmy is cracked, we would like - even NEED - replacement.
I have mailed Peter Harvey, who still takes care of spares for the ragtops and who was recommended to me, a pic of it, but got no reply yet - not a good sign, I think.

I am in no haste on this one, but I think that it is a good idea to look for every source I can come up with.
If necessary, i will post the pic here as well - but I don´t know when ... .

THANK YOU !

Pity, I've got a 70cm wide one going spare.
My impression of Peter Harvey is that he's slightly "old school" so probably doesn't check his email all that regularly. I'd suggest phoning him, but realise that's costly from abroad.

Hi there Willy

Now, THAT would have been a bit uncanny , right, you having exactly the right visor on spare.
But your suggestion is VERY helpful - of course it might be costly to phone Peter, but it would be worth it for sure - THANK YOU !!

...come to think about it:

If "all fails" - maybe a 70 cm visor is better than no visor at all - I did NOT measure how wide/long the original visor itself is - although I think it is more than 70 cm - , how far the bolt holes are apart and so on.

Also, it may look a bit - "wrong", but then ...

PLEASE do tell us should you consider selling it to somebody. I will take measure tomorrow to see what would be possible... .

CHEERS !

Hi Stefan, yes I'll be happy to sell it. I'll measure it up properly this evening - distance between the brackets, etc. But as overall width is close to 70cm, so if your aperture is 79cm wide it could leave a very drafty gap at both ends.

It came off a P6, but one with a Tudor Riviera sunroof.

Hi Willy

Hhmmmmm...
The drafty gap will not be the problem, methinks. I had the cracked one lifted up, and the main effect was that there was no rattling of the opened roof itself - even less noise - very good :D !

There was less draft, of course, but then it seems to be the PERFECT thing even without a visor - draftwise, not noisewise... .

So, if you measure it up - TAKE YOUR TIME, mind you - I will see what is possible.

THANKS !

Hi Stefan,
A little bird (or google) tells me that these people have tooling for the Webasto deflectors:
http://plastics4performance.com/
As you already have the brackets, they may be able to cut a piece to match your broken one.

The dimensions of my deflector are:
Length: 69.8cm tapering slightly to 69.5cm
Width: 16.8cm, mostly flat but with a slight bend across the rear 1.5cm, probably to make it more rigid.
Thickness: 4mm
Distance between the brackets: 53.2cm, measured from the centre of each.
2 holes per bracket, 5.4cm apart.
Colour: dark grey.

... boy, do I love birds !!! :D

I figured I might look for somebody here on the continent to either have a replacement, have ours repaired (It is split in two, approximately in the middle, by the way) - or have one made should nothing turn up. But then: the guys you found do know what they do - I hope :)

Reading the specs you got, I can only say: your deflector will not fit Jimmy - pity, really !
Jimmy has got three brackets. The middle one has two holes, the outer two have one each - I had not thought about the possibillities of different fitting setups, to be honest... !
Ours is curved distinctly - and roughly v-shaped. I would love a flatter one, as the current one takes up VERY much (head-) space when not in use.
But I think I will talk about that with Peter Harvey - LATER !! - and see from there.

Well - I hope that your visor will serve somebody with a problem like ours - THANK YOU and SORRY for any inconvenience, Willy !!

Stefan, my Weathershield wind deflector hinges forward, over the sun visors, when not in use. A pain if you want to use the sun visors admittedly, but I never do due to my being too tall, they block my road view. I have lots of headroom. Also have you checked whether the seat raising spacers are fitted to your seat, which would lift it and also reduce headroom.

Hi John,

some time to react - at last !

Our visor does hinge forward like yours, taking up loads of space and making the use of the sun visors a bit fiddly. Rolf and I don´t need them - but then Heike is a lot smaller than us, and uses them occasionally.
But I am amazed that you write that you have got enough headroom. I admit that I only feel restricted when leaning forward to e.g. look into side streets at crossings or so - but the visor/sun visor gets into my way quite a bit on these occasions ! Maybe your roof visor is not as curved, thus not as voluminous as ours ? I will post a pic, I would like to know what visors were fitted, if it were different ones.

About the seat spacers: a good idea, now that we have a bit more time. But the current arrangement seems fine. Heike uses a cushion to sit higher, I must say, but then the seat is right for Rolf and me, I think. I will sort that out at some point... .

THANK YOU for your reaction(s), I still have to call Peter Harvey to get to know more.
I will keep you posted ! :)

Stefan, this is the only photo I have at the momment which shows the lip curvature of my wind deflector.
Please excuse the tree, but how else would you transport one?

The shiny piece from the edge of the roof under the roof catch, is the roof handle, not locked back into its recess.

Hi John

Thank you for the picture - I share your view on the transportation of trees :D :!:

Your visor looks like the one we have.
I called Peter Harvey - he will come back to me per mail, he thinks that he has two visors that he could sell to us - and he told me that all visors that Windshields fitted were the same, i.e. curved like ours are.
And thus they will take up the headspace, more or less.

I told Peter that we do not mind if it takes months to have another deflector, so I will post here what will happen !

Bye

Hi -

and thanks, that is just great !

I will come back to this should Peter Harvey not react.

(If it is still there then ...
Mmhhhhhhhh ... .
Maybe you could let me know should you want to sell it "urgently" one day ? )

Cheers
