2200TC Autobox

I do have a 2200TC auto though I went the other way and fitted the motor into my auto base unit. I found it extremely pleasant to drive, smooth and torquey and obviously a massive improvement over the 2000SC. Didn't really use it enough to do mpg comparisons or anything and it's been sitting under a cover for the last few years unfortunately.
As others have mentioned though, the manual transmission tunnel is very narrow. It's hard to find another manual box that will fit, let alone an auto. If I were to do that sort of conversion though, with minimal regard for originality, there is no way I'd bother with a BW box. Just find a decent rwd 4 speed auto and make it fit. The overdrive should compensate for any loss of fuel economy. Down here in NZ I'd be looking at '80-'90s Toyota Crown/Cressida or Supra which mostly used an AW71 type box (which is a development of the BW65). For your neck of the woods you may be better off with a BMW or Volvo box and if you don't go too late model, you can avoid all the annoying electronics that get attached to newer transmissions.
