2200 SC Stuck Valve - 4 Cyl engine

Hi,

I have a 2200SC 1974. The engine was fine when I lasted ran it a couple of months back.
Now on cranking over ( I did not start the engine ) a valve has gone down and stayed down.
Before I strip down or give up, can anyone tell me if the piston will strike the valve in such a situation.
If the piston will hit the valve I may as well give up on the motor, but if not I will take the camshaft off and see if I can free the valve off.

Thanks,

Malcolm Smith.

I suppose it would depend if the valve went all the way down, even then it may not have damaged the piston, the valve will probably be lunched anyway, but they are dirt cheap, yo could even take the opportunity to fit hardened valves to all cylinders - the 2200 heads should be hard enough to take them.

Its quite easy to get the head of a 4 pot Rover - even an inept spanner monkey like me can do it without messing up too badly - its got to be worth a stab!

good luck

Matt
