Hi,

I'm new to the forum and have just joined the club.

I own a '71 2000 TC with a 4 speed manual box.

I am having trouble getting the car into gear although the clutch seems fine, but I am also looking really to fit a 5 speed manual box.
I was wondering if anyone could suggest what gearbox would be compatible.

Thanks for any help,

Kev

Hi,

I have a 2200tc and was thinking about a 5 speed conversion.

There is a good article in the p6 news about it which details parts needed etc. I went as far as getting a box an some of the parts but I ask the old insurance company about it and they said that they wouldn't give me cover for modifications so I got my own rebuilt. They replace the reverse gear and fitted new bearings so the noise sould be well down.

To be honest I have had the car off the road since I refiitted the box so can't say if it is any better.

Cruising in 4th was no problem at 70mph, The noise is the only thing that worried me at speed but I am used to driving modern cars which are much quieter. I am going to put in some good sound proofing around the transmission tunnel which with the new bearings should be much more acceptable.

I still fancy a 5 speed but don't think that the mileage I will do could justify the time and expense.

On your gear change problem, have you checked the hydraulic cylinders? I would bleed the system and see if that makes a difference. with the engine off you should be able to dip the clutch and move between gears smoothly, if you can't try pumping the pedal for a bit and try again, if it is better then your on the write path, could also be old fluid which is always worth changing.
