1972 Modified Rover P6 with 3.9 V8 Manual

Possibly deciding to sell my modified P6 Rover V8, only as I may have found a car that Ive always wanted and wouldnt be able to keep both! Full sale will depend on weather I actually purchase the other car or not as I haven't viewed it yet, but thought I would list this P6 now to gauge possible interest.

It has been featured on here before when I brought the car in October 2013.

Its a 1972 P6 that has been modified and now runs with a 3.9 Rover V8 on an Edelbrock 500 4 barrel carb from an American Muscle car. Running a 5 speed manual gearbox instead of the original 4 speed and the car was originally manual from the factory. It was extensively restored and modified by a very capable mechanic / engineer who welded the floor to a very good standard and its very solid bodywork wise. The odd bubble now appearing on the bottom of a couple of the doors but thats it. He also modified the inner wings to suit the 16 inch modular / wellar wheels that really make the car stand out. The suspension is all original in good condition and is a comfortable drive. Features a custom exhaust which is abit 'marmite' in the sence that you either love it or hate it, but its easily changed. I actually think it adds to the overall 'badass' look of the car. It sure sounds awesome. Due to space imitations, the front timing casing is original 3.5 P6. I have replaced the water pump, ditched the original fan in favour of a big electric fan wired to a thermostat and had no overheating issues at all over the summer, even in traffic on hot sunny days. Its also had a brand new starter motor.

Inside, the front seats are leather from a Fiat Coupe and are very comfortable. Rear seat is original cloth but I do have brown leather seats that I was going to dye black. It has a JVC CD player, 2 speakers in the door and 2 smaller ones on the rear shelf. I also have a brand new black carpet set to go with it. The carpets in the car are more than serviceable, just dont 100% fit right and I was going to do a a custom stereo install and re-carpet at the same time but havent got round to it.

The car is MOT'ed til July, is tax exempt and runs and drives very well. The grey & black paintwork sets the car off well, and it also has tinted rear windows. Generally its a very clean and tidy example of a modified P6 that certainly stands out at shows. Ive very much enjoyed owning it, but if all goes to plan with the other car, this will need to be sold. It runs great, sounds great and is a comfortable cruiser. It has also been featured in a music video for the London Band 'Last Night In Paris', which saw the video win some awards for 'best urban video'. I have pictures of the car on set with the band as well as a link to the final edited video.

It comes with lots of spares, mainly body pannels and I have a set of chrome bumpers in good condition too. Also some random interior bits too. And the original wheels with chrome trims if the the big modular wheels are not your thing!

It does have a few small bad points. Dosnt currently have a choke cable fitted so you need to hold the revs at 15-1800rpm for a few mins with your foot until it starts to warm up. It was fine in the summer to just start up and drive straight away, but in cold or damp conditions, it needs to run a fast idle for a few mins, then it settles down fine. Due to the wings being modified to fit the wheels, some of the filler has started to crack but its only noticeable when you look closely. (I have spare body pannels anyway). It has been leaking oil from the front of the engine, the sump has already been resealed and Im now in the process of upgrading the oil pump to the higher volume one with longer gears and fresh gaskets so hopefully that will cure the leak and improve things. It was fine all summer and only started leaking at the end of the year. I just need to re-fit the oil pump and test it. The clutch slave cylinder on the gearbox has also recently started seaping a little, its not a major leak and the clutch engages fine and dosnt slip at all, but would need to be kept an eye on. Ive been driving it with it like it for a while and hasnt got any worse but thought I should mention it.

As for the price...modified cars are pretty hard to value at the best of times, let alone a modified classic but Ive done some research into various things and am listing it at £4,250
Including all the spares. I also have a folder of pictures during its restoration from the previous owner.

Will confirm or deny next week if the car is 100% for sale or not once Ive viewed the other car but please contact me if you are interested in this, via PM or on this listing. The car is based near Kings Lynn, Norfolk. Here are some pictures:

I like it (of course  ) & I must say, those Fiat seats do actually look the business in there. 8)
Which model exactly do they come from?

Good luck with your sale.

IM DECIDING TO KEEP THIS NOW, SO ITS NOT FOR SALE AT THE MOMENT, SORRY!

Im assuming the seats are from a p-reg kind of age Fial Coupe. The guy that built it had his workshop just round the corner from a car breakers so Im guessing it got them from a there. They are very comfy and hold you in pretty well.

Ive decided the other car wasnt for me and that Im going to continue to do some more bits to this instead. I have the oil leak to fix, if its not the oil pump, it must be the timing cover gastet which Im not looking forward to! Ive also got new carpets and a better stereo system to install. Was considering a full re-wire but I dont think thats going to happen this year with lots of other projects and things on the go!

Thanks. I like the unfussy, business-like style of them & they look nice quality too. I'll keep my eyes peeled but tentative forays on the web suggest that they could be rare in the bargain basement of the internet.

I wouldn't consider you've made the wrong decision in keeping the car.
