Plate holding rear dampers - Stupid bolts

Thanks again for your input. From what you´ve said I think maybe drilling new holes and making new threads seems a sensible solution. I don´t want the dampers to come loose due to bad bolts. I´m still considering welding them inplace, however. Otherwise I´ll have to remove both bottom links, and...

Plate holding rear dampers - Stupid bolts

Thanks for the replys. Some of the bolts indeed have grooves in them. Another peculiar thing is that on some of them the threads are completly gone on about five millimeters of the end. It almost looks like they have been machined away. What might be the reason for that? Thanks for the...

Plate holding rear dampers - Stupid bolts

It´s a V8. I´m sorry, but I´m swedish so I don´t understand your abbreviations. What does IICR and ISTR stand for? I tried my local ironmongers, but they didn´t have that size bolts. Said they weren´t metric or inch, but something else. Hm.

Plate holding rear dampers - Stupid bolts

I need to change my rear dampers, so I removed the old ones and in that process removed the plate holding the dampers to the rear bottom link. When attempting to put it all back together again I find that I can´t tighten the bolts fastening the plate to the rear bottom link. They go in alright...

Volvo parts in a Rover? - Swedish connection?

Thanks all for your input. Much appreciated. It´s sometimes difficult to get ahold of parts in good nick i Sweden and the postage from England is staggering when it comes to parts larger than wheelnuts and wiperblades. Finding substitutes that are already available in Sweden would therefore make...

Volvo parts in a Rover? - Swedish connection?

Again I turn to the learned members of this forum to help me. Please don´t think I´m daft, but do any of you know if any brakeparts (preferably the servo and the brake master cylinder) are interchangeable betwen a P6 V8 and a Volvo Amazon or a Volvo 142? All three cars seem to have Girling...

    Fuel pressure - Filterking

Hi Has anyone tried putting a pressure regulator (one brand is called Filterking) on the fuel line before the carburators? I thought it might give my car a smoother running engine. It has a habit of stalling and refusing to start after a short run. PS My compliments to this forum and its...

Replacing front discs - Special tools?

I´m going to change the front discs on my -73 P63500 but before I go about it I´d like to know if there are any special tools required, or if there´s anything special to keep in mind while dismantling/reassembling? All tips are welcome.

Stuck sparkplugs - How to loosen?

Thanks Harveyp6. Looks like I´ll just have to cross my fingers and give them a good pull.

Stuck sparkplugs - How to loosen?

The sparkplugs on my P6 V8 are stuck, and I´m afraid of damaging the engine if I use to much force to loosen them. Is there a danger of cracking the material around the hole where the plug goes in or of breaking the plug in two, making it impossible to remove it? Any useful ideas on how to...

    Thanks for advice and info

How thin discs? - Minimum thickness

Because if I buy them from my local supplier they are 80 pounds apiece, and grinding say one millimeter will cost me about 15-20 punds apiece. If there´s no risk of lessening the brakepower I´m inclined to refurbish the discs before buying new ones.

How thin discs? - Minimum thickness

If I refurbish the brakediscs for my P6 V8, what´s the minimum thickness? I need to grind some of the rust away to make them look nice again. I live in Sweden so if anyone knows the minimum thickness in millimeters, I´d really appreaciate it. (We´ve got the metric system).

Brake calipers - removing pistons. How?

Thank you, Arthuy. I did what you suggested in your previous reply with bits of wood. I jammed wood into the opening in the caliper and connected the compressor to the caliper. Eight bars of compressed air did the job. All pistons now removed. Big smile.

Brake calipers - removing pistons. How?

Thanks to Scauto and Arthuy. Have to think about this for a while. Both front calipers are removed and brakepipes partly dismantled, so putting them back on doesn´t sound tempting. Seems like I´ve gone about this the wrong way. Serves me right for not being mechanically minded.

Brake calipers - removing pistons. How?

I want to get the pistons out of my front calipers because I need to rebuild them with new rubberseals. How do I remove the pistons? I´ve tried using compressed air, but only one of the smaller ones popped out. The other small one is halfway out, but the big one won´t move. Any suggestions? The...

Engine identification - When was it made?

Hm, Strombergs... Mine´s got SU´s, so someone has probably changed them at some point. This is maybe a stupid question, but what is "air rails" By the way, thanks to HarveyP6 for a very quick reply.

Engine identification - When was it made?

I just bought a spare engine (V8) for my 1973 Rover P6. On the side is what appears to be an identificationcode. It reads: 34115831F. Can I from the code tell what year the engine was produced? Is there anything else the code tells me? I live in Sweden, so the engine probably comes from an...

    Girling Front Brakes Diagram

I don´t know of how much use this is to you, but I just bought a new set of brakepadpins with anti-rattlesprings, and the name of the brand is "Quick brake". It´s the same as fitted to Lotus Elite, Volvo Amazon and Volvo 142, 144 and 145. It cost me 30 swedish kronor (I live in Sweden), which is...
