Thanks fella's. Can't get clearer than that. Perhaps the manual is not wrong, but misleading.

    Caliper piston seal

Maybe my replacement seals are non standard, but they are similar to the one's fitted and they have the smaller diameter towards the bottom. There may be some misunderstanding here( I wish I was capable of adding a photograph to this thread) the seals comprise of a normal seal shape but with an...

    Caliper piston seal

Sounds right to me too, and that is the way I will fit the seals. Would for some reason be happier if someone could back me up regarding the mistake in the manual. Could anyone check their manual please?

    Caliper piston seal

Am in the process of overhauling my rear callipers and would appreciate clarification regarding the correct fitting of the piston seals. My workshop manual states on page 39L of the Braking system section under the heading Rear Calliper Assemble paragraph 4 "Fit the new seal to the hydraulic...

How does the handbrake actually work?

I have been following the "brilliant" threads on here regarding dismantling the rear callipers. Have checked the bores, and seals and armed with the correct seal kits am now ready for reassembly. I will follow this to the letter, however I would feel a lot happier in my work if I could...

    Exhaust Clearance

Thanks, I was just hoping for some way to improve the clearance between the exhaust downpipe and the main frame. Perhaps these new vw rubber mounts will help. Will let you know. georgecook

    Exhaust Clearance

Have rechecked my mounting brackets and both are different, having different size holes for the rubber mounts. This means, based upon the above that I have one wrong bracket fitted to my SC. Thinking aloud here, why are the brackets different? Once one side bracket is fitted then the engine...

    Exhaust Clearance

On my 2000sc there is very little clearance between the downpipe from the manifold and the car mainframe. Most times on cold start up the exhaust bangs against the frame. To hopefully rectify this I have ordered a couple of the vw engine mounts which seem to be popular on the forum. Last year, I...

    2000sc Rougher than ever

Re Revering Member..Have repaired my front pipe, and it seems to be ok, so maybe another time, many thanks for the offer though. The brake fluid is all over the drivers footwell. The brake fluid had been running down the shaft past the rubber bellows and onto the pedal linkage. The rubber bellows...

    2000sc Rougher than ever

Have also found a couple of holes in the front exhaust pipe. The first one is behind the bracket mounting onto the gearbox. I have had to grind off the bracket to gain access to weld a patch onto the pipe. The difficult part is now to re-weld the bracket back onto the pipe at the correct angle...

    One Man Eezibleed Kit

The eezibleed kit, number G4062 which I bought a few months ago does not have a suitable top or cover to fit what I believe to be the standard P6 brake fluid reservoir. Could any of our resourceful members suggest a method of making an alternative top for the reservoir to enable me to use the kit.

    2000sc Rougher than ever

I checked out the two valve retainers at the weekend. Tried the end of a steel rule across them and with and without the shims in place, there didn't appear anything untoward, and with the shims in position, these stood proud of the valve as they should. However both tappets cups were slightly...

    2000sc Rougher than ever

Thanks Harvey, I cannot understand it, I was thinking there must be a problem with the valves, but for two to have a problem at the same time seems unlikely. Also bearing in mind that the compression test carried out previously was satisfactory. Would I be able to see if there was a possibility...

I NEED HELP... have sorted the valve clearances on 6 of the 8 valves and they are now within tolerance. However am unable to understand the problem I am having with numbers one and three tappets from the front both are inlet. When I checked them yesterday both were showing zero clearance, I...

Peter That Daimler Jag 2.5 V8 must have been terrific. I currently drive a 2002 rusty old S type4.2 V8 which is simply wonderful to drive but the bodywork and electronics are a nightmare, no engine problems though.......... maybe I shouldn't have said that.

Thanks fellas The plug leads are ok and the firing sequence with the rotor arm pointing to the correct cylinder seem fine. I am trying to start a baseline and work from there to establish something that I know to be absolutely correct. That baseline is the valve clearances. I now have my tools...

Whenever I have played around with the timing chain tensioner I put cloths in the chain housing. When I have played around with the valve clearances I put cloths in the chain housing. This morning I started to remove the centre camshaft bearing, the hardened washer slipped off the bolt, bounced...

Will recheck the clearances this morning after the car has been in the garage overnight so should be cold. Am inclined to think you are correct regarding the dial gauge would be easier, will have a think about that bearing in mind that the imperial micrometre is due for delivery tomorrow. Just a...
