When adjusting the tickover on the 2000 TC model, I have found it best to adjust the rear tickover screw ONLY.
This will open both carb butterflies equally due to the positive linkage between the carbs, rear to front.
However the front carb tickover screw is independant and has no...

To save weight the 4 cylinder engine casting has no sides – instead two pressed steel “side plates” are bolted on to seal the water chamber. With the side plates removed you can see the cylinder liners. The reason that these items crop up in postings is that they corrode over time and leak...

Hi Arthuy
The lamp unit could simply be glued in place where it overlaps the flange around the wing lamp aperture, not ideal but invisible, secure and serviceable. And won’t cause any difficulty changing bulbs, lenses etc..
You could possibly chop the bits you need out of otherwise scrap...
Hi it sounds as though the carb dashpot piston is sticking . At full throttle the piston rises , at lower speeds it should fall, if it sticks in the up position or falls too slowly it will cause the engine to stall due to incorrect rich mixture.
You can test this by removing the air filter...

Hi
Try Frost Auto restoration service www.frost.co.uk, they do a whole range of specialist "detailing" paint finishes including underbonnet black, correct chassis black, cadmium plate effectfor servos , etc etc - loads of useful stuff and well worth a look.
Painting the inside of the doors posed a problem as the spray gun would only reach parts through the various apertures - in the end I purchased a long paint brush with an angled head from B&Q and used that with a cold galvanising paint. (I think the brush was intended for painting domestic...
Does anyone have experience of balancing twin SU's (HS8)using vacuum gauges on the manifold side of the carbs ?
I have used a crypton balancer which goes over the inlets but with this I could only check one carb at a time and I am convinced that it had a choking effect on the carb being...

It would be worth checking the vacuum advance connections, especially the two elbows one on the carb, the other on the distributor, these tend to split with age and its not always obvious.
Take the pipe complete with elbows off and BLOW down them (it clears any gunk out) then put a...

Hi Gary, I cant answer the question as to which is best , but if you decided to go with the standard bushes then give S & G Walker a ring, They are retiring and clearing stock - I got a set of rear bushes at approx half price just before Christmas. Worth checking them out if you need anything...
Thanks for that, I hoped it would be condensation but deep down feared the worst, everything is now cleaned and there is no sign of emulsified oil anywhere except in the breather pipes - so fingers crossed.

Ok Johnny
Sorry if my comments have caused confusion
If you are certain that the only way to get it out is to drill it fine... you are an experienced mechanic and your advice is something that should be valued by club members.
I would personally try any other method than drilling as MY...
Speedy , you could try to unscrew the remnants using a triangular file pressed into the inner part of the tube, this might give enough grip but files are brittle.
Probably the best solution would be a stud extractor - the type that looks like a tapered screw tap with a left hand thread...
Does anyone have any ideas why I am getting a greenish slime in both the crankcase breather pipe and from the rocker cover breather, (it looks very much like the gunge in the new anti smoking campaign adds, and is I suppose emulsified oil). The engine oil looks clean both on the dipstick and in...

Are you using enough revs ? the engine is much noisier than a modern sound proofed car, with no tacho it can sound as though you are over revving and as a result be tempted to change up a gear too soon. Another possibility is that the brakes may be binding/sticking - with so little use it...

Check the earth connection (-ve) from the battery to the car body. It must be good, bolted to clean bright metal. Try taking a jump lead from the -ve terminal to a good earth, the hole on the bottom boot lip where the boot catch engages is usually clean and will take a jump lead terminal...
Has anyone seen a 2000TC fitted with the original oil cooler ? was it a standard fitting on early 2000TC's or just a rare optional extra ? Any idea where I might get one and do I need additional oil pipes / adapters as well.
(I have an oil cooler section on the bottom of my radiator but...
