18ACR alternator, voltage sensing or not?

Ordered a Rectifier and fitted it today, 110% sure the wires went back on the terminals they came off of. Refitted alternator to car, connected negative battery terminal and then positive terminal. Pop and sizzle from under the bonnet  My first thought was that's it, blown it up but...

    Prom night car insurance

Gave up on this idea, basically no insurance company would touch it with a barge pole. It would come under the same umbrella as a private hire minicab and I can't see any way even the best P6 in the world would come upto the the required spec. I would have to have a CRB check (which wouldn't...

18ACR alternator, voltage sensing or not?

I know this thread has been dormant for a while but then so has my Rover, nearly 2 years in fact. It has been started and moved regularly but on getting it out of the garage for a pre MOT check over this week I have found my "new" alternator has now died! It has done no more than 50 miles on the...

    Prom night car insurance

I was made redundant 18 months ago so the P6 got parked up and has been ever since. Someone suggested I use the Rover for school prom nights and weddings so it pays for its own expenses etc but it seems none of the regular classic car insurance companies allow it. I have tried Richardson Hosken...

18ACR alternator, voltage sensing or not?

The alternator on my 76 V8 has packed up (light on and erratic ammeter), I have acquired a reconditioned 18ACR alternator via Ebay but it doesn't have the extra connection. Will it work Ok? I have been led to believe I can tape up the extra wire and leave it disconnected but I am unconvinced.

    Someones bangering a P6 estate!

They are. So good in fact that some tracks are on about banning them. They have already banned Montegos and most Saabs.

    Someones bangering a P6 estate!

They will race anything now all the A60's and Triumph 2000's have been used up, especially if its something really rare and they can be the first to race one (which is very likely the case with the P6 estate, I dont know of another ever being raced).

    New car jacking scam

Found this on another forum......... Taken from driftireland.com; Warning..!!!! Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public car park in the city . As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I took it off after I got home, it was a receipt for...

    Someones bangering a P6 estate!

I have heard a rumour on another forum that someone has got one for racing next season, which even though I used to race myself I think is an act of sacrilege! Just wondered if anyone has had one stolen as I cant imagine one being sold for "banger" money. Unless its that horrendously modified one...

    wanted, interior / roof

I have a roof panel, it was mint (not even been drilled for a roof aerial)when I took it off last year but may have a ding or 2 now I also have the complete head lining which was also mint when I removed it. I am just outside Holbeach. I'd like a tenner for the tin roof and you can have the...

Oil leak INSIDE the car ?

I had a similar problem recently on my sisters old skoda felicia, Gear oil was dripping slowly from under the dash around the steering column. It turned out to be a corroded and blocked up gearbox breather, when the gearbox got warm the pressure was forcing oil up the speedo cable and it was...

    RSR Trailer Stolen

I doubt it will be seen again, probably gone to ireland or eastern europe. Thieving scum took mine off my dads drive 5 years ago. It was behind locked gates, had a hitchlock on it and a heavy chain round the axle which was concreted into the ground and it had my name and postcode welded into the...

    V8 servo ratio

I now have the servo in bits on the bench and the inside of the vacuum chamber is nice and shiny, the big diaphram is fine as is the small one under the plastic cover on the side. The cylinder bore also looks to be in perfect condition so I might just try and re-seal it and see how it goes. I...

    Goodrich Brake hoses.

I bought a set off Ebay for about £30 and one of the back ones was indeed wrong, but I did send it back (with the rubber origional as a pattern) and got it swapped OK. Seller said at the time that there were several different kits for P6s. Kit was marked up as "P6B saloon" I think. I wonder if...

    V8 servo ratio

Does anyone know what the correct servo ratio is for a late V8 auto with a Lockheed servo so I can source one on Ebay for sensible money? The vacuum side of the servo is OK but the seals have given up letting all the fluid escape into the vacuum tank.

    WARNING!!

Trouble is the first place I worked at is long gone (there is a Tesco store on the site now!)and the owner died a few years ago. Second one went under about 10 years ago and the last place (I was there for 12 years) is still trading but not the sort of blokes you would want to mess with! in a...

    WARNING!!

B**dy hell that sounds nasty! Phosgene was a nerve gas used in the first world war was it not? I was a welder for nearly twenty years and have used all sorts of stuff for degreasing steel including petrol and paint thinner of various types. I now have no sense of smell whatsoever, chronic...

    brake master

Matmore Motor Spares in Spalding, Lincs. Should be able to get it stainless linered and resealed. They did the one on my Mk3 Cortina last year and I have a feeling the one on my V8 will need to be done soon as it feels like stepping on a dead rat when I brake hard  Cost me £100 for the...

    Fuel vapourisation/ rough gear selection

Took the v8 to the East Kirkby rally yesterday which has been its longest run so far(35miles), Ran fine for the first 20 miles doing 50-60 MPH. Pulled out to overtake a tractor and just as I got past it the engine started missfiring and spluttering, pulled over in the next layby and had a look...
