Spitfire Multispark... any good??

Well tried adding some 2 stroke to the focus and can confirm it works! It's definitely smoother running!

Rich.

Spitfire Multispark. Just found this tread. I have sold these products in the Nordic countries the last 3 years.
And yes, they do work just as the manufakurer say. They were invented by Rolls Royce during WW2 and used on the marine Merlin engines.
The Fuel Catalyst was used on the Spitfires and other planes. The Multispark unit does not increase volt or amp. It splits the puls so you get
4-5 sparks miliseconds between. Unburned petrol and oxygen will then get a new chanse to burn. Tested my 73 mod Rolls last autumn.
HC went down from 220 to 130 after fitting Multispark. A few days later after adding FuelCatalyst to the tank WITHOUT Multispark
HC went down from 220 to 150. Oxygen, O2, down from 1,2 to 0,4.
A friend fitted Multispark to AMC Javelin; starts much easier, petrol consumption down from 15-16 litres pr 100km to 12 litres.
The car always smelled petrol from exhaust, now it does not smell petrol.
Hope some of you have tried the products since June 2011.

I guess the MSD module is the proven track and performance approach.
But even if it the Spitfire unit shows to be limited to improving efficiency for just low rev town driving, that can be a cheap plus.
My P6 as more of a daily driver than before, is becoming irritatingly expensive to run ..

@eggbert68b you don't really expect your half-century old V8 to be economical on fuel though! As you state, Multiple Spark Discharge (MSD) modules are the race proven approach. I have their Street Fire module fitted to my P6B, and I'm very happy with it.

The Spitfire MS should work at all revs. Have sold around 40 of these in Norway and all feedback is positiv. Another friend with 62 Rambler
(Javelin woman's husbond) now stand outside the car, reach his arm in and starts almost by touching the key. Never did that before.
Up a certain hill he had to use 2nd gear, now he accelrate on 3rd.
And yes, it does'nt count much if my car use 26 or 30 litres pr 100 km... but still, we are a little like kids.. fun with little extra power and that
it starts easier. What is more important now with more ethanol in the petrol is the Fuel Diamonds or the Fuel Catalysts. They prevent petrol
and diesel from getting stale ++.
Attached; letter to the manufacturer from Fuel Catalyst customer. Old article in motor magazine (with small changes)
I have had 3 Range Rovers (76 and 89 mods) and regret they are sold. Hope to get one later, or a P5 or P6...

Well indeed yes, but any cheap gains on fuel economy must be a plus.
Always interested to hear how your box of magic performed. Do you see any significant fuel economy or more significant power, or both !

On my Rolls I have not seen much better performance since I have used it rarely, and it is a heavy car with large engine - 6,75 litre.
But it starts much easier. See also above about Javelin and Rambler, and test on my Rolls. My first customer bought MS for his 50-55 year old Mercedes. At a show 3 months later he came up to me and said:"that one works very good". He was going to a "race" for over 50 year old cars, and after driving 150 km he ment it was time to fill petrol. He thought there was something wrong with the pump at the station, it stopped after 9 litres, but the tank was full. The car had never used so little petrol.
I have had problems with starting my snowblower first time evry winther. The petrol was brown and smelled bad. After adding one FuelCatalyst pellet to the tank, it starts much easier, petrol is clear and smells good, and it runs much better. It starts at first stroke and I can turn off choke
at once. Looks like you are from Australia? The manufacturer has an agent there, and one in France. Think there is one in Belgium and Germany.
I use to say about the Spitfire Multispark; It's probably the cheapest horsepowers you can buy.:) And you will probably get your money back
several times in saved petrol. It should last over 10 years. ( Always smart to keep the original coil lead in the car, just in case )

@ Armos - thank you for the interesting discussion. If it works on our 4 cyl and V8 engines, great - I do not see any problems or risks with it.

It is interesting to see the variation in the prices for the same unit here in the UK (eg E*bay), same supplier.

They were first made for the Merlin engines. V12 at 27 litre!! Have not heard of any problems. There is also a MC unit, little smaller.
On MC you will need one for each cylinder.
Variations in prices because he has not updated prices on Ebay. Guess they are too cheap there.

@eggbert68b I didn't do before and after exhaust emissions tests, nor have I ever had my car on an engine dyno, but it started much quicker than when I had a standard coil. I also had a Pertronix Ignitor fitted in the dizzy at the same time, replacing the points. So, hard to say what bit of kit did what. Maybe removing the points is what made for easier starting? The exhaust smells less rich these days, so I just hope that the multiple sparkles are burning all the fuel the HF6s are dumping in.
Apologies all for veering off the topic of this thread.
