The series two gearchange will also feel very floppy if either:
(a) the locating ring in the selector mechanism is missing
(b) the rubber "teardrop" has fallen off the bottom of the lever
If you feel around under the car, you can tell if anything's missing - Wadham's can supply both if you need...

Curses - when removing the number 3 plug from my 2200TC the metal sheered just above where the thread begins - then the rest of the plug came out, including all of the porcellain and the electrode. How do I go about removing the remaining metal part (nb - it has now been soaked in penetrating...

I took the underbonnet pad off my SD1 for a while and the bonnet used to steam in the wet, so I guess it does get quite hot. I put it back on when a friend of mine said you can worsen pedestrian injuries in a collision because, in an impact a pedestrian's head hitting the bonnet will cause it...
This happenned to me too. The teardrop fell off the end of the gearstick and the resultant slack caused the box to jam in reverse. Unfortunately the car was being MoT'd at the time. Needless to say, I did not go home with a certificate and the tester was not overly pleased about having to...

I have a pair of engine mounts off a '76 2.2TC engine you are welcome to (they are different, so I must have both types). I live in Leeds so, if you're localish, you could pick them up - or I could post them to you?

Thanks very much chaps, that's very useful indeed. I should have said, but yes, the engine's out of the car and I have a spare (currently installed in the car...), so I shall tear off the sideplate and go from there - cheers.
