Thanks everyone. I intend to change oil next week with 20/50. I will also do a tune up, timing , carb balance, mixture etc. The oil light has not come on which makes me wonder if the problem is with sender so will clean its contacts initially. I’ll report back when I’ve done the above.
Thanks...
Hi Everyone
I’ve recently bought a P6B which starts and runs well enough. The oil pressure reads around 35-40psi until the engine warms up when it just drops away to nothing. Engine note doesn’t change and there are no rattles or knocks. Pressure sometimes returns when revved but not always. Oil...
Thanks old bloke for the fantastic photos. Whilst I doubt I could justify another P6, I do have 2 MGBs. A rubber bumper GT that I use every day and a mark 1 Roadster that is awaiting paintwork. I agree, they make all great stablemates.
Hi
I was on this forum a couple of years ago with my Zircon Blue 2000 that I rescued from a farmers field. Much as I loved that car the siren call of MGBs made me sell it earlier this year.
I regretted this decision almost immediately but still hankered after a V8. I’ve now managed to track down...
Thanks Harvey, sorry for delay in replying. I'm in the process of removing the starter motor but the top bolt is fighting me all the way. There just isn't enough space to get a decent socket on it!!
More problems are cropping up with each mile, not only do all water jackets leak slightly but...
Thank you Colin & Harvey
I shall certainly check the torque converter bolts which I assume go into the backplate? Harvey, how can I inspect the flexplate for cracks?
Sorry to be a pain but as I said, I am a complete novice with auto boxes.
Regards
Andy
Thanks Demetrius & Willy
I will definitely check the carburettor spacer. I've already ruled out the bonnet prop as a source. I'm still at a loss to understand how either would only manifest themselves with the car stationery in drive and with a hot engine.
This noise is a full-on clattering...
Hi Everyone
My P6 2000 auto has developed an annoying rattle/clattering sound from the engine bay. At first I thought it might be the exhaust or heat shield making contact as it seems to happen after a run with the engine hot. I've now pinned it down to happening whilst stationery with the...
Thank you Vern. I still can't see any sign of a pointer, either past or present. I've timed the engine using a vacuum gauge and good, old fashioned trial and error. After further adjustments to carburettor, the car car is running really well so I think I can now close this thread.
Andy
Thanks for replying. Unfortunately my WM DOESNT HAVE A PAGE 47a! Page 45a shows EP line but no pointer. Page 40a is a diagram for Oil pump and timing chain.
Hello All
I wonder if anyone can supply photos of timing mark positions for a 1967 2000 auto. I cannot see a pointer on either the pulley or the flywheel. Surprisingly, neither the WM or Autobook manual go into any detail. Usually I time by trial and error but thought I should try the correct...
Thanks Peter for your reply, I'm a bit bemused by what you mean about the amount of welding you say is needed. Was I just dreaming that I've spent the past 2 years laying under the car getting burnt and covered by weld splatter!
I totally agree that P6 prices are far too cheap at present...
