Hello from The Netherlands

Good afternoon,

Thanks for approval and I will introduce myself.
I'm Wilfred, 61 years and living in The Netherlands (Breda) with my wife and son (and dog)
The reason for my membership is that I'm about to buy a 1972 Rover P6 2000TC, picture attached, and hope to get it coming Monday.
I'm sure there will be some maintenance to do and hope to come with some questions in case I'm stuck.
I'm already familiar with my 44 years old Jaguar XJ6 4.2, which I own for more than 13 years now, done a lot myself what I'm intend to to on the P6 as well.

So, have a great weekend and I hope to learn a lot.

Cheers,

Wilfred

Hello Wilfred.
Lots of love for the P6 in Holland.
As well as the chap ChrisW has mentioned, there's a fellow called Jan Waanders with many years experience servicing them, and with many spare parts.
Your new vehicle looks nice.

Hi, not sure. it certainly looks the same.
I discovered that there are only 38 left here in The Netherlands, at least the registred ones.
You're from Australia?
Many great cars there, I've been to Ford proving ground in Lara a few times.

Thanks. Yes, Australia. Not enough great cars here now, sadly.
No more ford manufacturing here now, so not much happening at Lara! Ford Geelong made the very first utility in the world.

Good morning,

The P6 is officially mine now, I collected it yesterday evening.
The first thing to do now is to give it a good clean, then it's really mine :)
First technical things to focus on now is to update the maintenance, I'm sure some questions will rise..

Have a great and sunny weekend everyone !

Wilfred

The journey starts! Keep asking questions, there are no dumb ones, just dumb answers. Change all the fluids so you have a base point, inspect all the rubber parts for fatigue.

Thank you all,

Changing fluids is the first thing on my list indeed, then after a while I will get to know the car better and can focus on other things.

One concerning thing however is the gearbox, changing gears is sometimes hard to do, and the first three gears are producing too much noise. I need to figure out how to change the oil here, it’s probably very old..

The owners manual told me to look underneath the carpet on the passengers side, I wonder if I will find any oil there, given the fact that there hasn't been much maintenance for the past few years..

Would 20W50 be sufficient or is it better to use 20W80 for example ?

Cheers,
Wilfred

Since yours is a laft hand drive car, the gearbox filler plug is on the drivers side tunnel.
A good 20W50 will be enough. If the gearbox is noisy in the intermediate gears, eventually you will have to replace the bearings, at least from the layshaft. But it can go like this for ages.
