Hi guys,....thought it was about time i posted up pics of my recent addition to my p6 collection,

the body work is sound (apart from a few scratches here and there) and i thought i was on to a winner until i lifted what was left of the carpets

Both front floor pans have been pushed up and the inner sills are crumbling,(god knows what i will find under the outer covers  ),and i won't go into what i found when i lifted the rear seats,
This leaves me with a bit of a dilema,....do i bite the bullet and unpack my welding kit :?: ,...or do i transfere all the good bits over to my other V8 that i spent 3 weeks welding :?:
This car had spent most of it's life on the Isle of Wight and came with an extensive history file right upto August 2000

Morning Kev.

Considering you are probably a little cramped for space with your new baby, and you need to rebuild the garage!!!
I would respectfully suggest that the better option is that you finish the rebuild of your other V8 and use all the good parts off this one to finish it,and save the rest as spares!!
As you say, when you take the sill covers off it is probably rotten as a pear there as well, and you cant save 'em all!!!
good luck!!
Dave

It is a tough one that, one of the reasons I did not scrap mine after the engine popped and the breaks gave up, both needing a full rebuild was the large history file with the car, the other was the car had little or no rust. I don't know what it is about a car with so much documented history but it seems more of a crime to resign them to the Rover garage in the sky. Is it as rusty as the one you welded up was? Can some of the body panels be also used from Hermione?

It is a hard call, from the pictures it does look like it's been f%^ked about with a lot so there maybe other horrors waiting.

P.s (off topic a bit)
On a side note, you'll notice the two DL letters in the reg, before the new reg types came out all IOW cars had this DL in the reg. So if you see the reg of a car with DL beware as IOW drivers don't know how mini roundabouts work. Honest, you come to the island and you will get stuck in one of the famous IOW stand off's because the person who has the right of way on the min roundabout does not know and so just sits there.

I quite agree they do seem to have some sort of hold over you & it's always a shame to break another one but at the end of the day how many can you save?? especially when they look like that under the carpet.

I have a K Reg 3500S in Mexico Brown which I bought about 10 years ago out of a scrapyard & I have only ever seen one rustier P6 we're talking front half barely connected to back half  but I've always been loathed to cut it up because it was actually this very car that converted me to P6s way back when I was still at school.

It belonged to a friend of mine & he invited me to go in it to the NEC classic car show in about 1985/86 & I remember being so in awe of the car, the comfort & perfomance really impressed me.

He sadly died late 80s early 90s & the car stood under some trees on his drive for a good few years & simply crumbled away, I then noticed it had disappeared & about a month later it came into a local yard on a Saturday morning & by the Saturday afternoon I had bought it

Inside the car was a leather file with an etched aluminium viking longship with the car's Reg. no. on the front (he had a business doing etched metal pictures) & inside it contains a bit of history & a lot of photos of the car in it's glory days.

THE TROUBLE IS WE'RE JUST TOO SENTIMENTAL

Regards Colin
