Has the rust actually penetrated into the sill covers? If not, it could be worth having them blasted and galvanised. I did that with some similar looking ones on the basis that it was worth the gamble and if they distorted I wouldn't have lost much. They actually came out very well.

I will take the ball joint tool please PM sent

A wise investment! Makes the job so easy. I got mine new in 1980 and have used it so many times I must be close to wearing it out but it still keeps doing the job. The one thing I always do is oil the threads before and after use every single time.

Clearly! Three people have asked to buy the ball joint tool in the short time since I posted the thread. Are they that rare, or did I severely undervalue it? It doesn't seem to be a very complex shape, is it worth having a few made? I only have it because a friend found it in the boot of his old P6.

In any case, I can rest assured that my ball joints will fail on the way back from the post office.

It's deeper than surface rust. Probably more suited to the Kurust and rattle can end of the market.

I paid some ridiculous amount for a good used pair a few years ago, I'd have used these if I'd had them!
