Wiring /fog lights

Can anyone advise if the wiring for the optional fog lights are factory installed, and if so, where to connect the lamps. I have recently aquired a set of chrome Lucas square fog lamps, and I am eager to have them working.

You'll find the take-off wire for the fog lights at the back of the passenger glovebox (not sure if it's reversed on LHD cars). Check your wiring diagram for the colours as I think the 2000's & V8's are different & very early cars too.

mhh - have a look at the wiring behind each headlight - on all my cars there is a blue with yellow stripe wire at both sides of car - I guess these are the folg light supplies - stick a test lamp on them and go switch the lights on to fog postion. I recall that the wire at the switch in the fog position is also blue/yellow....
IF the test lamp dont light up look for unconnected wires behind the glove boxes as suggested above

hi,
the rovering member is right, the wires are to the right of the fusebox in the glovebox, there are three, only two are needed, can't remember off hand which colours, the reason they are disconnected there is so that the wires down near the lights are not left 'LIVE' . there is one wire at the back of your lights, that is your live wire the earth can be plugged into the group of earth wires for your lights, indicators, horn which are all linked together.

Just to reiterate a previous thread. When I fitted my fog lights to our '75 V8, under advice I used 25amp cable from each light, both fused independently to a relay. Took the permanent live for the relay from the alternator with 25amp cable & just used the foglight switch (one wire, I've yet to fit fogs to our 4-pots so bow to Josephs experience) to switch the relay on & off using normal wire. You may care to do the same, though you probably knew this anyway... :)

Just a thought - If you use the fitted switch - When in "fog" position the headlamps are off. Is that legal? - I have heard that it is not where I live (Belgium). If I fit front fog lights - when they are on - the dipped lights have to be as well - so another switch is necessary.

I think it's so you can't have the headlights on main beam which is counter-productive in fog. It's the same set-up on the P5B's. Can't be illegal here though you'll have to use a seperate switch there if the laws are different.

Hi !!

Just to inform you all that my foglights are now working perfect, and is wired via the main light switch. fog position.

Next to the fusebox (in my car LHD; on the left side, there are 3 wires coming out of the main wiring loom. 2 blue/yellow 1,5mm2 and one red/yellow 2,5 mm2.

All these three are to be wired together to get the lamps to work when opering the main lamp switch to fog position.

No connections needed to be done in the fuse box.

Both blue/yellow wires will be easily spotted in the engine compartment, left and right side, next to the headlamps. Earth is also easily spotted here.

The fog lamps are working together with the parking lights, which at least in Norway, is the only way they are permitted to work, i.e. not in connection with the main beam. As soon as the main switch is switched to main beam, the fog lamps come off.

Hope this will be of help tto anyone else fitting fog lights to their P6's.

Anyway, thanks a lot for all your help.

Regards
Petter
