wiring diagram

Thanks Peter! As soon as I get access to an A3 printer I will print a copy, and maybe laminate it for workshop use.

I can open it, download it, enlarge it, and read all the colour codes and all the text.

But I'm colour blind ..................

Bugger! You may need help from a female member of the household.....they are VERY rarely colour blind.

Can people with other model years/chassis suffixes and scanners handy do the same with the Owner's manual diagrams and post them please?

This talk of the P6 wiring diagram being complicated makes me laugh. It fits on a single sheet of paper for crying out loud. Our 2012 Passat wiring diagram is a 263 page book (actually it's 630 pages, but the rest are about where all the electrical hardware is located around the car, not the wiring itself).

Yours
Vern
Hello Vern,
In general, wiring diagrams are easy to figure, but, when the diagram colour codes are practically invisible when you reach a certain age, and the responding wires are not only adrift from the electrical fittings, but also age has had its effect on the wire colours as well. Most of our members know the problems I have had with my P6, and I have now come up against the front four lights, two fogs and two horns getting sorted, 24 wires I think, incl. earth, and to cap it all, the suffix E diagram does not marry up with the fuses.
Hope all you guys, (new word that I believe covers all genders nowadays) keep well.
Regards
Brian

Here's those diagrams for you. The pdf is an A3 scan and the jpg has been colour adjusted to make a little clearer hopefully.
Cheers, Peter

If the issue turns out to be the steering column switches, check the connection through the rivets ie rivet centre to part, They can get loose and burn out the connection. Fix is to solder the rivet to the copper. In addition to the fuse box you may find a few in-line fuses for things like the Heated rear window or air con. Oh, and the NADA diagram for the P6 (in the '68 manual) is a two page affair and very different to the other diagrams.

Dymo make a particular label maker that prints onto shrinkwrap, it's called a Dymo Rhino, I've used mine to label the wires as I take them off. Makes tracing and reassembly a breeze.

How do you get these magic items?
Aside, I stupidly disconnected my fuse box to check wires behind, still trying to replace it.

I bought mine online, I couldn't find a shop that sold them and still haven't seen them anywhere though officeworks claim they hold them.... Try here DYMO RHINO 4200 INDUSTRIAL LABELLING TOOL PL150 / 1801611 / S0955950 / AE010587937 / SD15604 (SDS0955950)

Note thats an Australian site in AUD located in brisbane

and I can't use the built in cutter because the tape then wraps around the drive pin (inside the machine). I use scissors and waste less tape. They may have fixed that issue by now though.

OK, fuse box now replaced, the body did not recognise the positions it had to succumb? to (does that mean what I think it means), mine not the bloody fuse box.
Remove dashboard, another Houdini position, ah, live wire to headlight switch waving about in the breeze, plug in, four head lights. How are you going to set them up ? you ask, good question I reply.
Fuel gauge not moving, so checked that at the time, gauge OK, so it looks like it could be the tank electrics
Now got to fiddle all the bits back into the rear of the panel, even with the steering wheel off, not going to be easy
Have I enough to write a book yet? take it easy folk.
regards
Brian

AFAIK there is only one 10v stabilizer, on the back of the instrument cluster. In both S2 (round instruments) and S1 (strip speedo) stabilizer is shown feeding only the temp gauge and the fuel tank gauge.

Wire to the tank comes from the gauge not the the stabilizer & as said the stabilizer is on the instrument cluster

Thank you,
Being as my temp gauge is working, I would assume the stabilizer is OK?? so the 10v should be transmitted straight to the tank, via the gauge.
Am I completely cocked on that, is that an earth lead from the tank to the gauge?
I will look today, (weather permitting, garage full of stuff the wife calls junk) looking for 10v at the tank connection, if live, and I disconnected, then earthed?? it, (would it damage the stabilizer or gauge), ignition on, would the gauge read full or empty
regards
Brian

Full, and it won't damage the stabiliser or gauge. Don't forget to check that the earth wire on the tank unit is sound.

P6 3500
my stop and reversing light not working, getting all lights with a direct live of the battery,
I am assuming the switches are at fault as I have a live at the fuse,
As I was looking, in the boot ,passenger side, I have a wire, red and black, which looks like it has come out of a connector, I cannot get a live from it at all, and it does not appear to be an earth wire, the wiring diagram does not help (to small/blurred etc)
Best wishes
Brian
