Wipers That Wont Intermit! - Where's the sponge thingy?

Dear All!!

I have read many threads concerning either wipers that wont intermit (they work all the time as if they were on number one), or wipers that wont start on one, but will when you've selected two - first?!

Are'nt I a lucky lad, mine does BOTH!!!!!

I believe from the various replies that the problem lies within the sponge inside the vac tube. Problem is, I don’t know where to look.

Can someone advise me of where to locate the sponge and the diaphragm please?

I wait in anticipation, before the next MOT (especially in this bloody weather)!!

Cheers, Johnny.

Thanks for that, only I'm not a member.

Does that mean I now have to join to find out?

Johnny. :(

johnny,
the vacuum delay unit is the white plastic bit on your wiper motor arm. either two or three screws to remove and it will come away from the motor itself plus take the black pipe off. on the top there is a spring clip and underneath should be but rarely is a piece of sponge. it usually has disintegrated, (replace with a new bit of sponge) and 9 times out of ten the delay will start working again. the diaphram is inside, if memory serves me right there are either three or four clips to pull off and you can then get inside to it. :D

Ian.

Thanks alot! Much appreciated.

Johnny.

P.S. Better luck next time with the Interior on eBay - I'm picking the bronze leather up at the weekend!! :D
