Just wondered if anyone knew the whereabouts of My old series one V8, LRV 501G. I know it is still around as it is taxed and MOT'd. I bought it from the original owner in 1988 and had loads of fun with it. I sold it around 1991. First two pictures are when it was mine, and the last is at a show somewhere some years later.

Ha ha! This just popped up on eBay!

1968 Rover P6 3500 V8 Auto, 79000 miles | eBay

I owned it from around 1988 for a few years and it was immaculate then. If you look at the nearside shot you will notice that the rear wing is very slightly greener than the rest of the car. Thins is because I had it resprayed after someone vandalised it and scratched the paint!! That was over 30 years ago. It bothered me then but I guess no one else was worried!!

I have no idea what has been done to it since, I had it but I replaced all four wings with new ones, waxoyled everything I could get to, replaced the hydraulic tappets, fitted the spare wheel kit which I got from a breakers yard in the days when they stacked them high and anything that would come off with a spanner was a fiver! I also added the radiator expansion tank which I see is still there. The headrests also came from a breakers. I had to strip the seats from the car at the breakers to get the parts to fit headrests as this car originally had no slots in the seats. Those headrests were also buckskin in colour originally. I sprayed them black with vinylcote spray. All a long time ago now but good to see it has been looked after. Also it had rear and front passenger Rover option fake sheepskin floor mats. I expect they are dead and gone now but they are the only ones I have ever seen!!

The dealer advertising this car caused a major ruck in the classic Mustang community some while ago. I am not at liberty to say on a public forum what occurred, just to say litigation was involved. Buyer beware.

You know that this was John Glynns car, he wrote regularly in p6 news.

Mot Failure?

There are quite a few posts on the forum but looks like the last owner hasn't been on since may 2018.

I had a look at this car recently, as it’s only 12 minutes away from me!

It’s an absolutely beautiful car, it really is. The history file is immense and is a testament to the previous owners who have all clearly adored it. Something about it fees very special indeed.

Your sheepskin rugs are all there, safely in the boot and they look like they’ve never been used! Only things of note are cosmetic really, the engine bay could probably do with a detail to match the standard everywhere else on the car, and there are a couple of mismatched panels colour wise. The stainless exhaust sounds gorgeous!

The only problem for me is I really had a Series 2 in my mind. And as stupid as it sounds, the only “lemon” car I ever had was white, and that still puts me off of white cars (it’s silly how we can think like that about a car colour, but lots of people do!) If it wasn’t for that, I think I’d certainly have tried jolly hard to be LRV’s next owner. And yet I know it’s such a good car, that I ask myself every day why I haven’t just bought it yet!
