Which lt77

Just bought a 1977 2200 p6 and am looking to fit an LT77, which version should I be looking for ? Or would I be better with an R380, assuming it would fit that is

R380 is stronger, but you'll not worry an LT77 with a 2200, so R380 probably not worth the extra cost. I agree with Alex, anything that isn't knackered will be good! Suffix C and D are stronger I think but again you'll likely not need that. 4x4 box won't fit.

You'll need some sort of of adapter plate, the V8 is an easier conversion as the LT77 to V8 bellhousing was a standard item. You may be able to do something with the TR7 2 litre bellhousing but I don't recall ever seeing an LT77 conversion on a 4 cylinder P6 before.

As already mentioned, suffix C or D (or an F if you can find one) will be the strongest, but any would do for your needs. Budget for a rebuild if you buy a secondhand unrebuilt box, you're unlikely to find one that doesn't need some work.

I bought on of those specifically to see whether that was possible, but IIRC the hump for the starter nose is in the wrong place. If anyone wants to buy it to try for themselves it's up for grabs. I think from what I've seen the Sherpa bellhousing looks promising. Sowen used one to fit an LT77 to his K-Series.

The Rovering Member has one, with a spacer between the LT77 and the P6 bellhousing, but I haven't actually got my hands on it for a looksee yet.

I think you meant to say the T-series of Sowen. And there is a very good reason why the Sherpa bellhousing worked: The T-series was an evolution of the M-series which was based on the O-series, probably the engine in the afformetioned Sherpa.
