Which headrests are these?

I'm buying a P6 that has these headrests and I've never seen them before and Google searches for images don't turn up any like them. The car is a 1966 SC.

Are these the original headrests for the car? The seats are clearly Rover seats.

Cheers,
Karl

Never see ones like this strange though P6 Front Seats have the headrest fixing in the middle of the seat but this is loaded into the seat differently
but looks like its meant to fit and it looks like a P6 Seat from behind, could this be a Australia style ?
I would not like to be sitting in the rear in a accident with the metal prongs sticking out.
Any front photos of the seats ?

After your post I Googled a bunch more for Australian seats and they all seem to be the same as the European and American ones. I am starting to wonder if these were a period aftermarket fitment. If so, it's a darn good job. Here's a front shot of the seat and you can see the interesting front of the headrest.

They look cool. Who doesn't love a bit of added rarity, eh!?
Now that you've shown us your unique headrests, may we also see some pics of the whole car?

Oz P6 were either NZ assembled or UK sourced - basicaly the same. Headrests were the same for both

Thanks! Odd that they nobody knows what they are.

I'm just in the process of buying the car and it's not in my possession yet. These are photos I had but the car was in close quarters so no good shots from outside. I'll post pics of the car when I have it.

Thank you for posting a photo looking at the seat covers condition I would say they look like the original seat covers.
If this was a later add on by someone then they would have to of recovered the top of the seat as you cant see the original headrest mountings.
Or did Rover make a P6 Seat without the headrest mountings, and this was added later.
They seem to protrude out a bit past the front of the seat but there is a cut out for your head to go into.
You never know it might be a one off thing Rover did and the headrests are now worth more then the car :)
I am sure some bright spark will be along to tell us all

Rover definitely made the seats for the earlier cars without headrests. I saw some on other cars that were for sale, like this one: 1967 Rover 2000 TC - 3 owners For Sale | Car And Classic

Haha, well I am guessing they are either 1966-specific or after market in the period, added to seats that did not have headrests at all. Something like that.

I did a search in google images for Classic Car Headrests and I did find some not quite the same though, but there was one set of instructions on how to fit them so I guess it was a kit you could buy, a very good match to the seats they even have the black piping around the edges.
Good luck with you new buy ;)

Thank you! They must indeed be after market. Well they do fit the car.

The car is now mine! Here are a couple of photos like @mrtask asked for. I'm told the color is willow green and was reasonably rare. I believe the sunroof is a Weatherall item. Not sure if the factory shipped those or if this is after market also? It has after market Britax seatbelts from the era as well.

That's a very nice motor you've got yourself there relistan. Great colour. Thanks for sharing the pics of your new acquisition, now go and enjoy it!

That is a real beauty. Snazzy door mirrors too. They look like paddy Hopkirk mirrors which were another desirable aftermarket upgrade.

I bought some replacement seats for Bruiser & the driver's seat is a very early one with the early runners & no headrest socket. I took the headrest fittings/blocks off an old seat & fitted them to it. Not too difficult.

That's a lovely car.

Interesting! They are quite similar to images I just found by searching for Paddy Hopkirk mirrors, but mine are only stamped on the bottom with a small symbol. Looking at them I am pretty certain that they were put on some time in the last 20 years. The chrome work is too good and the glass is too clear to be original. I'll try to track down which mirrors they are.
