Which cylinder head do I have ?...well, my car...

Hi people, I have problems trying to guess the type of cylinder head in my car ( late or early one ).

Chassis Nr. 86813166 E
Engine Nr. 86800770 C
I don't know the history of the car. She spent her life in Italy.

I´m enclosing a pic of the engine nr., as you can see there is a C suffix but a ¨tab¨(?) casted in the block,
under the number. Is that normal ?
Its all about what type of gasket I have to use.
Can you help me with that ?
Thanks in advance

Chassis 868 is a 1974 export 2200TC
Engine 868 suffix C is a 2000TC engine, detoxed for the Italian market from Aug 73

So it's a later engine, in fact a very late 2000TC
The tab came in sometime in 1965 - I'd have to re-read the service notes to get any more specific

The funny thing is that comes with 2 monster SU HS8 carbs for a 2000cc engine !!

These were standard fitment for series 1 and 2 2000 TC models. Indeed it was not the most obvious choice, as many other things regarding the P6. Presumably the engine was developed like this for competition use in the early 1960s. 2200 TC models came with more reasonable HIF6 carbs, and some owners (like me) have them retrofitted into their 2000 TCs for improved driveability and torque characteristics.

The tab indicated the change in block deck height to accommodate the change from the thin steel head gasket.

One story is that Rover was well aware that the 2 inch carbs were oversized, but apparently could not eliminate a tendency to surge with smaller units.
