which 12volt fuel pump is recomended for rover v8

hi there,
I would like to replace my existing 12 volt fuel pump and wonder which one has been successfully fitted to the v8 engine car. There are so many out there , Facet etc, that choosing the best one for the job is difficult!
Harvey said that a pressure of 3-5 lbs is sufficient, so what has been fitted with good results?

Hi Peter,

There are pumps that push the fuel, and others that full the fuel. There are those that pump continuously, and those that pump discretely. For twin SU carburettors incorporating a spill return, the continuous type is required. If you prefer down the back beneath the tank area, then you will require the push type. I installed a Facet some 26 years ago, so I can only comment on it. Have never had an issue with it, totally reliable. :)

I have the Huco which is a direct replacement for the standard pump.

What else to say other than fuel arrives as required.

Isn´t it so, that with the low pressure pusher pump (close to tank) you must bypass the reserve tap ?
With pull-type low pressure pump (in motor bay) you can stay with the original layout means reserve tap remains. Have a Hüco too, but with Facet, SU, Hüco you have a perfect choice and should decide, what you can get in your country without problems incl spares. Do not forget filter before pump, blanking plate for the "empty" socket of the mechanical one (if still fitted), relay and crash-switch. I do not have the crash-switch (inertia switch) yet but a relay that cuts off pump with iginition on but engine off (after 2-3 s).

Hmh, it´s a German one...
AKI - Benzinpumpenrelais
It was the only one with a simple logic / non complicated wiring. It´s transistorized, not mechanical. AKI make a presetting with 2-3s running the pump. If the engine starts within this time, terminal one from the coil triggers the relay and it continues to run the pump. If not, it cuts off. For sure, if you have problems to start, you can repeat starting process on and on. It works fine on my car. It costs EUR 79,00 incl. Tax and shipment in Germany. Suppose plus 10 EUR for shipment to UK. AKI is making interesting electronic components, mostly for race application. Can imagine, that such a safety fuel-cut off relay is also a must in UK motorsports.

some hope with my car, takes 5 mins combined with several squirts of "Start -U- bastard" then it bursts into life with lumpy running until its warm so
I have purchased one of these :
eBay item number: 131410737033
to go with a new fuel pump, better safe than sorry..

The inertia switch is a safety add-on and so a good thing. With a cut-off relay before, your engine starting problems do not get worse as the carbs are full, so it should not be a problem, when the
pump stopps after some seconds. I would not have a good feeling, when the pump is constantly running with ignition on and engine off.

After installing the new square type petrol pump it has now developed a leak.
The fuel filter that screws into the main body is leaking at the thread, I have tightened it as tight as I might do without snapping it off.
I used the white plumbers tape on the threads and I think that it is not the correct type for petrol connections?
What is the right type of tape or sealant to use on this connection?
I have been told that LOX 8 is good for nitrous , but the availability is very limited and it cost 2 arms and a leg.....

Peter

Don't know about petrol, but I use the yellow(gas) tape if I want to avoid leaks.

Probably putting the moz on it but have had a Facet pump up the back for probably 25+ years with no probs.

Plumbing tape similar to the white Teflon but yellow for use with gas pipes and vessels, available from plumbing supplies. It's somewhat thicker

Here's a pic of mine. Rear mounted

After extensive testing and looking at the pump , I found that the screw in filter that came with the pump was faulty.
It has a large nut grafted onto the filter body and it was leaking from that point, not the screw joint as I had suspected.
I removed the offending bit of metal and screwed in a simple hose connection thing....made the new rubber pipe connection and
nothing leaked. So much for Facet pumps made in B***dy China.
I took the oppertunity to drain the fuel tank at this point, I could not stop the flow out of the hose, even with 2 hose clamps on the rubber .
It took about 30 mins to drain into 2- 5 gall jerry cans, I then undid the very small screw securing the reserve valve and replaced the viton O ring with a new one.
Now moving on to balancing my new carburetors with the recently received tool , (made in china) but imported from America (the one with a funny looking president)

That's an interesting site, full of useful information.
Looks like GRTV8 car is running at a lot more pressure, wonder if he order a lower spring pressure than standard, is this safe for SU carburetors?
Peter

Hi Peter - this is the original factory pump. Only difference I have compared to other P6b is she has aircon. Cant see why a/c would require a bigger pump.
