hi there,
when taking the air filter off , I noticed this fitting, without any hose attached, so what is it for?

so i wonder what it is for?

thats the vacuum takeoff port, can have up to three outlets but yours looks like it's a single, they are rather rare on a P6B but found on P5b. I forget what it's for...but i think it connects to the Automatic Enrichment Device (AED - choke) which few P6Bs had. That car of yours appears to be of mixed provinence. What is the bracket in the forground for?

Hi, As said a vacuum take off. AED,s weren't usually fitted to the series 2. The manifold or engine could be from a Range Rover which used vacuum for heater controls. Do some research on the engine number or on the manifold casting number or post up a wider picture of the engine. Someone may just have put it in instead of a blanking plug, stranger things have happened.

but found on P5b.

I don't ever remember seeing it on on a P5B even with an AED, the first time I came across them was for the difflock on Range Rovers, and for the modulator on an SD1 with a GM180 gearbox. Presumably it was fitted on the NADA P6B for the aircon valve, but not my area of expertise so that's just a guess.

If the one in the original pic isn't plugged then that cylinder will be running very weak.

You have an SD1 manifold where originally Solex Stromberg CD175 carburators were fitted and these are rather complex carburators with a lot of hoses and some ectrical connections. A lot of years ago i picked up a RV8 from a Sd1 from a scrapyard and this engine had those carbs fitted. I scrapped these because i like the SU better. Here's a picture of such a manifold which shows the connection but it is not connected. I would put a bolt in as its for no use with SU's

On my NADA the take off has 3 vacuum points.
1 air con/ heater unit.
2 air cleaner with hot/cold intake.
3 throttle switch to control distributor advance retard for emission purposes.

Told you I didn't know much about NADAs didn't I.....

I have one of those with two vacuum take-offs to regulate the cold/warm air intake as per the NADA cars. You can just plug the vacuum spigot if you don't need it.

Also very early U/K series 2 V8s when fitted with A/C and central single scoop +NADA type air cleaner had 2 take offs.

I'm not sure about the bracket, but it looks as if it was for attaching 2 cables of some sort, possible a home made job, but no evidence of what extra cables would attach too?
