It's great, so unfair the media killed the model. It rotted no more than say, an ADO16, but got all the media hyperbole

http://62.3.92.81/~jhaynes/motors/lancia/lancia.html
Toying with keeping it (because return is so little at sale) and popping back on the road with ticket. Shouldn't need much, but cosmetics are shonky now, what with being out in the open for 25 years. But then in that time I've got old and shonky myself!

For a 1972 design, it handles like a Cortina or Victor from that era could only ever wish for

I nearly bought a Beta Coupe as my first car, but insurance was twice the price of the car, so I had a Chevette instead :(

I tried an early Beta which had a more tasteful dashboard .Think it was a 1973 model in a very similar brown to the P6 dark brown

Hi did nt know you were a volvo man as well i go weak at the knees when i see 7 and 9 series they built them so well, my dad went from rover p6 to the volvo 240 i suppose alot of people did when the p6 got to an age, i got the mitsubishi because people say the jap stuff is so good well i cant see it if you want cheap and very nasty then get one , im counting down the months when i can go back to buy another volvo only 32 months to go
regards
marcus

I've always found the same with Jap stuff, they are alledgedly well built (although I've seen no evidence of that either), but the bit you spend all your time in, the interior, they're always rubbish. Maybe being rover owners we expect wood and leather everywhere, and rock hard black plastic isn't our thing !

Volvos are in my blood I run my 240 as my everyday hack I payed 80 quid for it & have used it for about 18 months relatively trouble free. I dabbled with the Japanese a few years ago & have to say the one I had was a cracker a 1990 Toyota Carina II which was a very comfortable, lively, economical & nicely finished car, I bought it off my Father who bought it new . He made the mistake of replacing it with a Subaru Impreza which although a fast & attractive car the interior was just awful & the whole thing was very shabbily finished off, I replaced it after 180,000 miles with a Volvo 850 Estate & then I bought a house so the 850 had to go

Regards Colin

Learned to drive in my dads 3500 auto VUV 293M!
1st car was a Viva HC, NDO 892M,when I was 17
Next was a Escort Mk2 van PDO 844R, £50 from a scrapyard worth a fortune now!
Vauxhall Magnum 1800, STW 149N. Low mileage and was cheap as it head been rolled and road rash on the roof....
then a Mk1 Astra estate ULH 725X
Allegro 1.3 RER 440S, put a mental race engine out of my autograss special in that. It would blow an XR3 into the weeds...until it got to a bend.
Marina van, piece of Cr*p
Talbot Horizon UEG 474X, rattling french dog poo...
Another Mk2 Escort van NRO 738V
First P6 2200SC manual in Lunar grey,RDO761N
P6 2000TC NFL 556F in Old english white
P6 2200 SC KJF 991P customised and sprayed it metallic purple! still about I believe.
P6 2000 SC KJL 745P Was green but I resprayed it Tartan red.
Homebuilt Morgan type 3 wheeler based on mini running gear.
Astra GTE 1.8 MK1 ,A430 ONG frighteningly quick for its time.
Bought a house at 21 so the P6s had to go..
bought a Mini Mayfair, it was horrid
Mk2 Granny 2.8 Ghia X with s pack, bought it but never used it.
Mk5 Tina 2.0 Ghia auto
Mk1 Escort Elba camper van JAL 149N! probably worth thousands now..
Ford Model T hot rod thing with a Rover V8, TVS 201
Saab 99, AAV ***Y reg with 200,0000 miles, scrapped it after a year but wasnt a bad car.
Saab 99, FTW 145T reg low mileage but it was a dog!
Dutton Phaeton Q810 CGY, plastic poo
Ford 100e 719 EDV, so slow it makes my 2000sc auto seem fast!
Ford 107e DSL 942, All steel 1300 X-flow screamer!
Ford Granada Twincam, H597 JHK,Only thing I had that compared to a P6 for comfort and handling.
Ford Cortina Mk3 1600l KEB 407P, With a 140BHP 2 litre Pinto, fast but handled like the back axle was attached with chains!
And now I am back to P6s again with LMB 450K the ratty brown 2000 auto and NNR 702P the V8 auto which is now painted and almost ready for MOT after being parked in a farmers barn since 1993.

I dont think it will be a classic any time soon but my everyday car is a Skoda Octavia with the VAG 1.9Tdi diesel, which is a brilliant car. Anyone that turns there nose up at Skoda's should try one. Cheap insurance and road tax and from 55 to 75 MPG and all the electric toys you could wish for, Just a VW Bora without the pricetag.

I also did 3 seasons banger racing and rid the world of at least 20 of those nasty little Hondarover 213 and 216 things from the late 80's, also had a P6 2000 auto to race but it was too rotten for me. Didnt bother my mate though as he raced it anyway with a 1600 XR 2 pushrod engine in it mated to a Mk2 cortina gearbox! It was quick but but almost fell in half after a big T-bone from a series 1 Standard Vanguard.

I'm sure there are more as I must have had 50 cars in 20 years.
