Wear a Name Tag at Shows! - We know who each other is on here but wa

Hi Chaps.

I don't go to a huge number of shows, but for me the walking round looking at the cars doesn't take too long. The pleasure is in chatting to people about mutual interests.

A lot of you on here I'd like to think of as freinds I'd enjoy having a chat with if we met face to face. BUT I don't know what any of you look like!

How about when we go to shows we all make ourselves a nametag with our real name and our club forum moniker so we can spot each other. It would be a shame to walk past each other without realising!

Chris

Good idea Chris. Your right, sometimes folks walk about on their lonesome with no one to talk to.
all say Ahhhh...

I might go in drag, and see if I get chatted to.

Maybe we should make some little P6ROC forum member badges with our names on to leave on the dashboard whilst our cars are on show?

This is a brilliant Idea.

What about a sheet that you could put on your dashboard like the rally number sheets you get.

I have knocked up something that would be ideal, just the name and avtar. obviously it is not sanctioned by the club but just a suggestion for a simple format.

Maybe one of the club officials may like to do something similar that can be downloaded from the club web page.

Arthuy, great to see some forum members doing a bit for the good of ones fellow members and all that.
i find the forum very quiet at times, or perhaps im just a boring old fart with nothing better to do.
But my point is that (changing topic very slightly) Dare I say that the forum needs more visitors/users I thinks, i wonder whether this years national rally could be used to promote the forum, and make it a busier place.

I for one am quite happy to talk take a little time out to try and get members more active on line, if they have the internet. We all know that if you get a bit of free time, usding the net can be addictive, and it would be good to have more active live discussion.

One last point is this; Im not sure what went wrong a while back, and led the moderator/s to decide of vetting posts before publishing on the forum, but I think this is pretty counter productive. I dont log on as often as I might cos you cant have a instant/active conversation for this very reason.

Getting back down from my pedestal then, I hope someone takes your suggestion of a forum flyer on board and acts on it, every little effort should be grasped with open arms, otherwise, folks can get peed off with bothering.

PS Has there been any development on my suggestion of a users gallery Mr Moderator ?

I'm liking the dashboard sheet idea. Most excellent! Perhaps I could use a small viking figure, wearing a T shirt with "Erik" written on it!!

At risk of getting moderated myself - yes, we'd all like to be able to have a real time unmoderated forum. The cause of the forum's temporary demise and the current moderating regime were a number of personal relationship issues between club members (sorry about the double speak - I can't think of any other way to put it politely!) which spilled over into acrimonious slanging matches on here that none of the rest of us needed or wanted to read. A number of us felt strongly that a solution was needed to allow the forum to continue and at the expense of some personal effort this is the best we've come up with.

I too would like to see many more people involved and for it to be more chatty. It can be almost like having a continuous club meet. And that's at least part of the pleasure of owning a P6!

For the time being lets go with advertising ourselves at shows and so forth!

Chris

oh well, that sounds like a stressful time.
I suppose that the posting delay was the best method of controlling unwanted arguments at that time. Allthough, wouldnt it be better now to simply ban the offending users from posting ?
I say this because the end result has been to restrict other peoples fun and their ability to make the site what it should be, an interactive live forum. I dont want to open old wounds here, (and i guess they are still healing) but the best way of dealing with idiots is to send them out, and leave them wondering what they are missing, not punish everyone else, that seems un-democratic to me.
I know that the moderator/s do get the posts posted asap, but however live discussion is not possible, and this is vital on a forum. im not saying it would put people off the website entirely of course because the site is about more than this forum area, however, it should be considered that many people who visit a site and then the forum, have a need sometimes for direct and live active discussion, be that a mechanical issue or a simple chat and instant advice sharing. Waiting for your post to be displayed, and then waiting for a reply is pointless to the cause and counter-productive.

Please look into this, Surely the offending person/s wont bother going over old ground, and if they do, dont dither about just sodding BAN THEM.
I know I would, no messing.
Don.

This issue was raised at the recent committee meeting, and unfortunately it was agreed to continue as is for the time being.
I do raise the issue at each meeting, and once we can formulate a workable plan we will open things back up.

All suggestions are taken seriously, and will be passed on for consideration ! :)

Thanks for that info Rick, I think it would be a good idea if any forum members who read this, and feel the same way that I do, make a point of saying so. Then when the next meeting comes about, you may be able to make some ground on our behalf. I dont mind if you wish to quote my last post, and I am sure I would speak for some others.

Many thanks anyway, its a tough old job being a moderator i suspect. I would take on the challenge or offer to work alongside you Rick, but i know sod all about the technical side of computeing mate, so I will just send you my gratitude for now.
Don.

I know we're a bit off topic now but would more moderators help matters?

Back on topic, could the powers that be print up and A5 size name/info dashboard card as mentioned in previous posts to be included with the welcome pack at the National Rally?

I've only just started looking in to the forum again & I must say I don't like the delayed posting which is precisely why I stopped visiting after the forum shutdown. If the P4 & P5 forums can be real time then I don't see why the P6 forum can't be. And if people start their old slanging matches again, then as Don says, sling them off, no messing.

Not much of a delay is a delay nonetheless & if most other forums can be real-time then what's so untrustworthy about P6 owners? It is a very wide broom to sweep away a very small problem. As already stated, ban the miscreants from the site if they start up again.
The P4 site has just gone through a little episode of it's own but theres no talk of pre-moderating the posts.

I agree with the above contributors & I also do appreciate the work the moderators are doing.

BUT the delay, however short, puts people off the forum altogether. You only need to look at how old some of the latest posts are to see this. I didn't keep records obviously, but think it was all much more recent before moderation.

Still a great website, though!

Phil.

Thank you Phil and The Rovering member.

This is a obviously a wide issue. Like Rovering Member, and Phil, I think Live discussion is part of what this and any forum is all about. Again, I dont want to speak out of turn, but the result has been counter-productive. As new people log on, and think...This is interesting, I like Rovers...i like to chat.... I have a few queries.....

The last thing you want them to do is post a question or a "Hi Im New" and then be told..... The moderators will check your post and it will appear later. WALLOP, you have possibly lost a valuable contributor. who may, but may never bother coming back, and who may never join the club.

What has been gained, In my opinion Nothing. What is lost Plenty. IN ORDER TO CONTROL THE WEBSITE FROM UNWANTED ARGUMENTS, SLANGING MATCHES, VERBAL OBCENITIES ETC, YOU MUST FIRST WARN THE OFFENDER, THEN SECOND TIME BAN THEM. FULL STOP.

its no use doing what you have done really, your creating yourselves work, and making it annoying for others, and putting off newcomers, who MAY join the club, once we get them hooked.

So the moral here is, can it be changed without waiting for the next G8 summit ?

That seems eminently workable & the only plan you need, to me anyway.
