Im looking for the stainless steel(?) bonnet strip that sits overthe headlights on the series one V8s for my 2000 if anyone has one lying around i would be very geatful as it is my first car i dont have much spare money to spend on it as im still at school but i have been looking for this item for a while now and think it would complete the look of the car. Here are a few pics to show you what im talking about.

I'll have a look in my lock - up, but it may take me a few weeks....

Really like the look of your car. A neat bit of welding / filling on the front valence to lose the bumper iron holes! I'm going to use a simple blade bumper with mine though. When I get to spraying up my new bonnet and fitting it (not this winter - this one is devoted to the back end of the car!) I'd planned to use a bonnet mounted number plate as yours. That confirms how much I like the look of it! My new bonnet has extract louvres pressed into it each side towards the rear and will be carrying a working NADA centre scoop to complete.

I see you have bullet mirrors mounted on the doors. How do you like that arrangement? Lucky currently has no mirrors and is frankly dangerous on a motorway, especially joining! I've been tempted to try bullets mounted on the trailing corners of the bonnet as per the very early Federal TC's, but I also have standard door mirrors and Reliant Scimitar double plane door mirrors in stock waiting decision. What do you think?

I like the sound of it very much the bullet mirrors are a bit of a balancing act although in my opinion they look the dogs i can only really see out of the drivers side and that took alot of fiddling, personally i didn't like the look of them on the bonnet but thats just a personal opinion. can you explain what you mean by the 'simple strip bumper' and cheers for looking for that bit for me.

Did I see this car at Piece Hall last year (2009)?

The 3500S next to it has the LPG system does it not?

Are you trying to match the look of that green bruiser?

Richard

Tolson , that's a fine car to have as a student . Do all your mates drive the usual Saxos , Corsas , 106's ?

Yes I was at the piece hall then and yes thats my dads car with LPG its what he used to do for a living your car seems simular in many ways, same wheels, police spoilers 4barrel holley if i am not mistaken. When i first got the car i was looking to match the look of the green car but i have decided against it and want to make it a little more subtle like this.

you cant really tell in the pic but i want to lower it and smooth the body with the loss of badges, door handles, the aeial, and the jacking points in the sills.

as for the other kids at school we have a selection of new minis lots of 05-09 polos and one person with an old mini nothing any more interesting than that.
their has been mixed reactions to mine most people love it but others still tend to bring up the £2000 scrappage allowance all too often.

I did some similar things back in the 80s with my old car. I think I mentioned the rear number plate lighting problem which you had fixed by using those little lights on the side of the plate. I frenched mine into the bootlid.

Best of luck with it, it's looking very nice btw.

PS I have a four barrel weber - has your dad mangaed to get the LPG on his Holley?

yes but its a pain in the backside! he runs on lpg alone now and it starts on lpg hes done this because of the large amount of fuel in the float chambers and the fact it opens up the 2nd set when you give it some nutsthen that fuel mixes with the lpg which isnt great. i think he wishes he stuck some su's on it before converting it.

Thanks for that - the float chambers on the Weber feed both primary and secondary (they don't have separate ones) so I might not have that problem. I have a lot more to do before I go this route so will keep it for the future.

Many thanks and good luck with your project.
