Wanted: P5B Coupé & P6 3500 in the USA

Hello all,

First post here, figured I’d toss this out as I’m keen to add a couple classic Rover saloons to my stable. Mind, I realize the P5B Coupé will have to come from England (or elsewhere) and likely I’ll be bringing a P6 V8 over as well (I’ve got a few cars I’ve imported from Blighty over the years; Dolly Sprint, 2500S Estate and a TVR Griffith 500). I certainly don’t mind RHD (obviously) but I know we had some federal spec P6s here in the US so if anyone knows of one for sale here, please do let me know.

I do have a couple of candidates I’m looking at in the UK, one of which is listed on carandclassic.co.uk which is how I found my two Triumphs and the TVR, but open to any suggestions of potential cars.

As for specifics on the P6, I’d prefer a series 2, doesn’t matter if it’s manual or auto, not particularly color sensitive but definitely no white.

On the P5B; must be a Coupé, definitely a dark color (Arden Green preferred above all). Not looking for anything needing major work but I’m ok with driver level/“rolling resto” cars.

Having brought enough cars in from England in the past, I’ve got it down to a science so can make a nice, easy deal happen for the right car(s).

Thanks all and happy to be here!

Cheers,
Aaron

so what kind of ship is it going on and how long? :p

:cool:welcome to the site
Cool. As for the p5 try to see one in admiralty blue with the silver birch roof...

Hey gents,

I normally just use a roll-on/roll off service to get the cars brought across the ocean. Knock on wood things have gone pretty smoothly with all of them so far. I’ve got a whole team of individuals that I use every step along the way and everybody stays in constant communication with one another via email so everyone is always kept in the loop.

And yes, Admiralty Blue would also be another acceptable color. Preferably with the maroon (mulberry?) interior.

Cheers,
Aaron

Welcome and good hunting.
Understand your preference for UK as a source, but having seen the (rust) condition of some of the cars that start as projects, could I humbly suggest that you consider Australia where rust is less of an issue (due to climate and no salt on roads) and values/prices are generally lower?

Or New Zealand which likewise is rust free.

Hi gents,

I agree that there is a big chance for rust on a UK car but I can only imagine the cost of shipping a car to the US from Oz or NZ to be quite staggering—because likely it would land at a port in California but then I’d need it trucked to Ohio where I am and that can cost more than the overseas leg, believe it or not. I’ve been lucky to have cooperative sellers in the UK who have sent me satisfactory photos of critical areas of the cars I’ve bought and on the P6 I’m pursuing, I’ve been receiving good photos of the rot prone areas so I’m comfortable. But hey, I can always investigate the possibility of getting a car here from “down under”...

Good day Aaron.
will possibly be selling mine come the spring. Its parked up for the winter.
Black (non standard) 1975 3500S with a 5 speed Gearbox. Sits on mini-light wheels.
30,000 miles since full/professional rebuild in 1996, garaged and only used in summer months.
Has had much done in the interim period from 1996 until now but nothing major.
The car was inherited from my late brother 4 years ago. He cherished it and unfortunately I cannot give it the respect it is due.
My sons are not interested in classic cars or even cars !!
If interested then please give me your e mail address and I can send better/further details.
Please note that there may be a delay in getting back to you, as I am "on the go" and do not read the Rover Forum daily.
Regards,
Stuart

Thanks Stuart, PM sent.

Take a look at the Federal Rover Group facebook page. We have quite a few US and Canadian members, and they generally know of cars that are available in North America.

Thanks Chris, I see there’s a decent looking 3500S project on there in Connecticut although I’m really close to pulling the trigger on one in England.

English cars will have more rot, and unless you're familiar with the sill arrangement, they can be a nightmare to weld.

US cars tend to have less rot.. and there are some decent parts to be found in the States and Canada. Plus the steering wheel is on the correct side already ;)

Well, I ended up pulling the trigger on a 1971 Allmond Yellow car in the UK. Bought it from a gentleman who’s collection also includes a Porsche 962 which ran at LeMans in 1988 and a 1929 blower Bentley, among 60 other cars! Needless to say, the car has been redone and is stated to be in fantastic condition. Has a massive history file and the full complement of all the workshop manuals, original owners packet, etc..

Will post pics shortly!

Alright fellas, loaded up and heading to Southampton to begin her voyage across the pond..

Been on a bit of an acquisition spree of esoteric British cars for my collection. Prior to this one I brought in a Dolly Sprint, a 2500S Estate and a TVR Griffith 500 so now I just need that elusive P5B Coupé and we are set! E27C2EC8-E908-4046-BA71-60964205FAF5.jpeg
