V8 Starter motor recommendations / advice

My 1972 3500S needs its starter motor rebuilt / replaced. Just wondered if anyone has any recommendations as to whom to go to?

How involved is it at home with a rebuild kit?

A friend with a Rangie reckons some P6 V8 starters are interchangable with those of V8 Land Rovers / Range Rovers - anyone know for sure?

Mine is a Lucas 25683B / 3M100.

Any thoughts / advice welcome.
Thanks
Mike

Hi mike,
Just read your article in CM, I live in Yate, and not long ago had my Latham, "dolly sprint based kit car, sold now" starter fully rebuilt by local co, Halls auto electrical for £70 with 1yr guarantee. You could easily buy a recon/new one for not much more. SEE EBAY 120084092454
I have my good spare, but might have another good one in my shed/boxes of bits!!!,I will have a dig.
Have you checked the engine can be turned over without the starter on ??? it is easily possible to strip and clean the motor yourself then test off the car :p
call or E anytime if you are stuck for anything. :D
Cheers
DAVE

P6 and Range Rover starters are different, the solenoid is mounted in a different position. On a P6 it hangs down underneath, Range (Land) Rover it sticks out of the side.
