V8 from other cars ?

Hi,

i am a p6 3500 auto driver from Germany (just bought).
As my V8 is sending out various noises i have to make a decision.
Overhaul of the existing engine or buying a used example of the Rover V8.
As P6's are very rare in Germany most V8's here are from Land Rover, Range Rover or maybe (seldom) SD1s.
Is it possible and easy to exchange my V8 with one of these ?
(I have a Land Rover V8 on hand with only 50000miles).

greetings

Olf,
My first thoughts are that it would be better to overhaul the original engine as you keep the same engine number for originalities sake. It would make a nice project - an engine rebuild and upgrade - all parts are available.
Engine swaps may involve an engine with a lower compression ratio, different oil filter positions / gearbox fittings and would not be as original.
Regards, John.

Hi,

i think my posting wasn't 100% clear.
It was always my intend to keep the genuine engine and overhaul it, if money and time allows.
But meanwhile i could have a Land Rover SIII Engine for about 200 Euros (130Pounds). So the loss of power would be, in my mind, bearable for a year or two.
The thing for me to know is, is the Land Rover V8 an easy bolt on, or are complex adjustments necessary ?
If the adjustments involve a huge amount of work it will be easier to overhaul the engine.

P.S.: I have done some rebuilds on Triumph and VW Engines, so i am quite confident to get a decent result, if it is necessary.
