update on front windscreen valance and lower seal.

Hi there,
I installed the lower windscreen seal and painted the valance whilst it was out of the car.
The lower seal was difficult to get the inner rubber flap to curl under the glass and flatten out.
I had 3 goes at it and finally it fitted properly. The secret was to start on one side and go past the first fixing bracket , tighten it finger tight , then go to the other side and do the same. Then progress across the center past the center bracket, tighten that up and finally pull out the string very carefully , always from the bottom.
I pre glued the seal to the metal channel first with 3M weatherstrip adhesive 08011, especially made for EPDM rubber. ordinary contact will not adhere to EPDM, it just peels off .

now for the next job, the rear valance under the bumper, its now off but one of the irons is very bent, evidence of accident damage, the bumper is also bent one end, so probably need a new one, but from where in australia ? inc the iron.....hmmmm

You description of the lower seal installation puzzles me. Why did you need the string? Is it because you didn't remove the glass?

hi Vern,
yes, I did it in situ, glass intact.
I used the string technique because with the pre glued seal to the metal Chanel , when offered up to the glass, that was the only way to pull the flap of rubber down and let it go under the the glass.
The string has to be pulled firmly downward to let the flap go under the glass so the glass is then sitting the the rubber channel .
have a go and you will instantly see what I mean, preferably in the middle of a field out of earshot of the under 18's
