Can anyone help me with this problem? I started my rover today for the first time in a few weeks today and when it was cold it was fine, but when it got warm, it started to misfire, and was reluctant to rev. The car has a luminition ignition so i dont think its that. I've checked the plugs, plugleads, coil, distributor cap, and had a brief look at the carbs, and they are all O.K except for one thing. The two middle cylinders on the drivers side do not appear to be firing.Whats happened, as when i last started the car it was fine!!!

Thanks, Speedy ???

HELLO SPEEDY,
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM & WHAT IT WAS WAS LACK OF FUEL, THE TANK WAS LOW & I GUESS CRAP GOT SUCKED UP INTO THE SYSTEM, I STUCK ABOUT £10S WORTH OF PETROL INTO IT & IT WORKED AFTER A MIN OR TWO OF GENTLE COAXING(FUEL GAUGE WAS MISREADING)

REGARDS JOHN

Almost certainly an ignition problem if just 2 cylinders aren't firing and were ok when you last switched off. If it is a reluctance to rev affecting all cylinders then it could be the fuel supply. Check that the plug leads are properly routed. If they touch each other they can misfire. Are they tight on the plugs? Is the lead in the cap ok? It's possible to damage a lead by pulling it off by the lead itself rather than the cap. Have another look at the dizzy cap inside. Look for signs of tracking, hairline cracks or moisture. Check all those connections again. Make and break each one a few times.
A good trick is to start the car in a dark garage (bonnet up) and look for tracking/sparks on the ignition system. The leads etc can look perfect but still be failing, especially if damp.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.
Regards
Nick

Thanks to everyone who wrote to help me. I stuck some more fuel in the car and left it ticking over for a while and everything is fine now!!
Thanks, Speedy :)

Speedy,
Glad everything is sorted.
When / if / you will need to balance your carbs give me a call, it always sounds difficult in the manual / handbook but I've always had twin carbs or twin choke carbs and it's really easy.
I have a couple of special tools for this but they are no better than a piece of plastic tubing for accuracy!
Regards, John.
