Under bonnet sticker layout

If You don't get a '76 layout from others [ not sure if it changed from the factory ] I have an original '72 V8 layout , I'm happy to take pics and post .

In terms of sticker positioning, there is no specific location or orientation which is deemed correct. Different years of manufacture combined with different locations across the globe will see variations.

All anyone can do is to place them in the most likely position based upon the images that are available.

There you go , a genuine sticker layout for a 1972 UK assembled P6b
Graeme- my negative earth label is on the battery box lid . How come you're so lucky and get two . Now I want one there .

It would seem that the sticker detailing guy slipped up on yours Gerald, maybe he knew it was bound for Oz and thought....who cares! or maybe he had too many beers at the Whakatu pub the night before and the thought of bending over in the boot of a P6 was more than a mortal hungover guy could bear.

Either way, your car is deficient!

My Rover also has the battery earth sticker in the same location as seen on Graeme's. There was also another sticker present in my engine bay that is missing from Graeme's and that is the paint colour. They were a Dulon sticker with a silver finish, providing both the colour and the code.

Ron.

P.S: There is also an earth sticker on the battery case lid.

Do you have a photo of your paint sticker Ron? My car was painted in triumph colours, maybe this is why mine is missing though it maybe elsewhere on the car, yes like your car I also have the Negative earth sticker on the battery box lid also.

I'll take a photo and post it later today Graeme. Like your Rover, my Rover is also resplendent in a Triumph colour. I have also seen the Dulon sticker within the engine bay of a British Racing Green Rover, another Triumph colour.

I went to a P6 show, at Coughton Hall with about a zillion P6s in attendance, and took a load of pictures to see how mine were supposed to fit.

They were all different, so I just looked back at some early photos and got them as close as possible

Mine's a 75 by the way, so it may be different.

Sorry Graeme, so far have not been able to locate the Dulon paint sticker. I had removed it some years ago and put it away for safe keeping. You guessed it, I don't remember where I put it! I looked where I was sure it was, but no, wasn't there. Hmmmm.

In the meantime, I did find some more of my stickers, so I have posted pics of those below.

The Smiths sticker was fitted to the Heater box when new. I don't recall seeing the Triplex sticker fitted before, so not sure where it would have gone. Negative Earth within the engine bay and battery box. The "do not slam" stickers, of which there were at least two variations, were fitted on the lower valance beneath the boot lid, and visible when the boot was open.

These are the early stickers, and are only applicable to the 10.5 : 1 engines prior to Rover changing the specification for the spark plugs.

think a lot of stickers are replacements and put on where owners thought they should be. possibly an error then copied by others. quattro has best image of layout with the large white decal aligned with north south and not east west. correct also in that later lower compression engines didn't need the larger 'red essential' under bonnet either. rear screen was where the 4 'star' 97 octane sticker was placed and not under bonnet. negative earth on drivers side . going on the other rovers I have seen at shows and my own (under39K from new believed to be genuine)that is. As my under bonnet is not pristine and reflects 40 years use, my stickers may? be originals ( but as a had a few owners one cannot tell for sure). black paint being satin not gloss (correct as per factory ) with speckled areas from body seal protective spray . e.g. not all smooth surface all over under bonnet as some cars now have! hard to replicate this I imagine when respraying an engine bay. I may try and upload couple of pics later and assuming i can add an attachment .
Harvey has likely seen all sorts and may be good font of info in this area. having a lower compression model 1974 auto I am open to being corrected as not an expert with P6 this being my first one ( money pit too)
