UK visit

Due to a business meeting, i will be visiting UK on 20/1/15.
I haven't fixed an exact schedule yet, but i think that it would be possible to stay perhaps 1-2 days more. Unfortunately i know that this is not the show season and it will be midweek, so probably there is nothing to do P6 related. However, i am thinking that it is quite easy to visit Gaydon (my meeting will be in Evesham) and spend a morning there. Solihul is also close, but am i right thinking that there's not much point in going there?

I will probably use the Stansted airport, and hire a car to move around. Can anyone comment if the journey times mentioned in ViaMichelin are close to the actual ones under normal conditions? It's been a decade since the last time that i 've been there, and i remember the traffic being rather dense most of the times.

Thanks,

Probably better to spend a little more time at Gaydon, there's a lot to see. AFAIK, there's not much to see at Solihull even if you could get access to it (are some parts still being used by Land Rover?) though some locals may know better.

As for traffic, I have no idea about Michelin estimates but it depends on where you are going from where & the time of day you're travelling. Late morning/early afternoons are probably your best bet for any longish-distance trips.

Google maps estimates are really good if you look at the actual time of day you'll be traveling. You'll have to try and update this thread with exact where when in caseanybody can meet up with you....

Rich.

I assume that Michelin is telling you to use the M11, A14, M6 and M5 to get to Evesham. Be aware that the A14 can be very congested after the M11 joins it and there are long-term roadworks where the A14 and M6 meet.

Thanks for the input.
I will try to make my schedule a little more specific next week when i will have booked flights etc., but the plan is to arrive at Stansted on 19/1 at 15:30, hire the car and head to Evesham. Probably just before the afternoon rush hour. The visit to Gaydon should be at the morning of 21/1, while i plan to leave UK at the afternoon of 22/1. Until then I should be hovering about the greater London and Kent area.

ViaMichelin suggests 3 different routes between Stansted and Evesham.
The first one is indeed A14, the second through A421 and A46 (i guess this is the "avoid the motorways" solution) and the third via M25 and M40 (the motorways option).
If the A14 is to be avoided, i tend to favour the minor roads (A416 and A46) approach if there are no problems.
I just keep my fingers crossed that the weather will be reasonable during my stay.

The A14 would be the longest, I think. It's a bit up & around for Evesham. If I were doing it I'd probably use M11, M25, M40/A40 to Oxford, then either the A40 or A44 to the A429 & on to the A424 to Evesham. From Oxford that would be a nice scenic route to follow though it'll be dark when you'd be over that way.

Your arrival time gets you here just in time for the evening rush hour so the approach to Oxford is liable to be busy, though I don't find the M25 to M40 too bad around that time if there are no incidents......if!
You pays your money & you takes your choice really. :?

go to gaydon its super , just remember that therent arent many people around so they are watching your every move on cameras , if you are inquisitive like me and want to know how much play is in the steering of some old car a fossilized old bint will appear and admonish you like the 5 year old that you are, a great visit is also the national motorcycle museum near the nec , or even birmingham , apparently someone has decided that its in the top 10 cities to visit in the world , i was there a few weeks ago and it was great actually , huge xmas fair in the city centre, always found aa routefinder to be spot on and give you warnings of traffic etc , good luck ,rich
