Just looking to replace all the tyres on my 1968 3500 V8 series 1. It's got Rostyle wheels and the tyres say 185 R14 or 185 S R14 but none of them have the middle number. Are theses the correct size and if so what is the middle number I need, 80, 90, 95? Thanks.

Hi, With no mention of the profile (the middle number as you call it) it will be 80. So yes they are the correct size.

Hi, further to last. The speed rating should be HR not SR, although SR will be OK. Having said that your biggest hurdle will be finding car tyres rather the more common van tyres in that size.

Actually, the Vredestein Sprint Classic in 185 HR 14 is very cheap here in Germany (80 EUR ea). Maybe also available in the UK ??
It´s the perfect looking tire for a classic car. In other sizes and VR this tire is an extremely expensive tire. Don´t forget the tubes.

Van tyres have stiffer sidewalls and different compounds to give durability and load capacity, over performance, ride and handling.

Van tyres are as noisy as hell, avoid. The Sprint classics are perfectly OK. You DO NOT need tubes with Rostyles.

I'll be looking to fit some whitewall inserts do you thnk it would be advisable to fit innertubes as well. Is there any problems to having innertubes as well?

Hi, Rover P6 wheels are tubeless but you may not have much choice in the matter if you have them fitted at a tyre depot. Because they don't have the safety bead like modern wheels have they insist on fitting inner tubes. If you want them then that's OK but if you don't you may have to stand your ground with them. They will of course charge you for the privilege. They say it's safer in the event of a puncture but how a deflated inner tube is going to help I don't know. Be aware if the tyres have ridges built into the inside construction of the tyre they can chafe through the inner tube and cause a puncture.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant but it's a pet peeve of mine and it's why I fit my own tyres.

Interesting, my P6 2200TC wheels do have a safety hump on one flange only. and if I remember correctly are marked H1, all modern wheels are H2.

I had to sign a disclaimer NOT to have tubes fitted. Obviously rules will vary according to where you are. Basically the fitters want to cover their asses, which is fair enough.

The inside of the Sprint classics are like 120 grit sandpaper. I would have thought tyres aimed at classics would be tube friendly, but I wouldn't count on it.

Anyway I'm moving on from my Rostyles to SD1 alloys which have a safety ridge and I save 10kg a corner...

Urgently needing 2 tyres for the Manchester Event City show.
Does anyone know where I can get 185 R14 for my V8 at a reasonable price.
I see Vredesteins seemed to have more than doubled in price since I checked in July. Any help gratefully appreciated from Cheshire.
