Tyre Air

Since the demise of the Rover brand my local Rover dealer has gone . Another franchise is there , selling Renault , Citroen and Peugeot Cars .
My problem is I always used to top up my tyre air pressure at his air supply .
Ive only ever used genuine Rover air in my tyres .
Will it be OK to use French air in my P6 tyres ? .

No. France drives on the right, you drive on the left. Add to that the fact that the French air will be metric and you're going to be really in trouble.

Thanks H-P6
Silly me , I hadn't thought that one through .
Im still running 35psi from over 12mths ago when I last topped up the tyres . Im running 195 70 14 Kumho tyres and they really hold their pressure .
I may have to look around for some other British air supply .
Gerald

be warned, French air will expect a bottle of wine at lunch time, it also smells different from rover air, less pipesmoke and cucumber sandwiches

Hi, if going by round here, you are lucky to be getting free air at all. All air here has to be
paid for. I suspect you're time will come :)

Colin

If you can hold out for a year,I will bring some british air with me!
Will about 140psi do? :)
Gives you some spare!!

Gerald,

Sorry to disappoint you mate, but neither the French air, nor the imported British air will be of any use to you as they are specifically engineered for use in the northern hemisphere. The balance would be way out and I suspect you could do some serious damage to your tyres. You will need to source locally produced Leyland/New Zealand tyre air.

Im starting to panic now .
Nothing Leyland left in NZ anymore . Not much British stuff around since Britain dumped us and joined the EEC/EU . A lot of Japanese and Korean dealers peddling cheap Asian tin . I can't put tainted Asian air in my beautiful Rover tyres !!
Hang on , I may do some research on using Land Rover Air , as there are masses of these vehicles around . It will be quite a bit heavier than straight Rover air being designed for use in 4x4's , but genetically it will have an advantage over French air .
Gerald.

Well Gerald, I installed a swag of German parts in my Rover during the ZF conversion and it survived, but I think Froggy air might be pushing the boat out just a little too much.

I with you on that Warren .
After all the bad air dumped into the atmosphere during the 70's Atomic testing in the pacific by France , I still don't trust the buggers to not corrupt our forecourt air ..
Im happy to use heavy LandRover air .
Now which type Freelander , Disco or Rangie air ?
I'll do further testing .
Might start with the lighter Freelander air .
Gerald

Well I guess if the weight is the problem then you could try Jaguar air however I suspect that the Northern Hemisphere probably has a lot of bearing on your P6 tyre performance, would hate to see you driving North when you really wanted to go South, your incipient (or advanced) dementia accepted now that your age exceeds that of your P6.
I suppose they could do some ceremony or process as the air crosses the border such as a pōwhiri however that would only be good for Holdens and clapped out cars, perhaps a few versus of Land of Hope and Glory could suffice or at worst the NZ national anthem.

You bring tears to my eyes .
All that hand over heart and patriotic songs stuff , Ive gone all girlie blouse .
All Im wanting is the appropriate Air for my P6 tyres .
Ive bitten the bullet and ------
Ive booked her into the local land rover agent , for monday , and they're deflating then refilling her with early Freelander tyre air - kinda like a blood transfusion but using NOS Freelander air stuff instead .
Will be a major if it all goes pear shaped as theres nothing else for a P6 out there . Ive rung around !! - All out of P6 air .
Fingers crossed .

Wouldn't a Haka be more appropriate - clearly you would want to intimidate any cowardly, inferior air, and ensure that only the strong virile stuff remains to fill your NZ tyres.

Also I recommend that you check the NOS Freelander air before you install it - if it's the newer stuff it may actually be relabeled Tata air, which is notoriously substandard and may lead to worse problems than installation of French air. I don't think you should be allowed to make this purchase on your own Gerald as you seem easily fobbed off with whatever the dealer has in stock - perhaps Graeme or Warren should go with you to prevent any further problems.

MWAAW - I WANT MY MOMMY !!!!

I have my own compressor in the garage, so I take virgin fresh air, the unadulterated raw material, and pump it into Brown Rover's tyres. On that basis, for a small fee, I'd be prepared to drain them and post Gerald some GENUINE Rover P6B air.
