TV Interference from a 1970 2000TC

HI, Can anybody shed any light on this one - my 1970 Rover 2000TC is interfereing with next-doors TV (No....this is NOT a joke...). They watch digital TV through an analogue aerial, and when my Rover is running it totally blanks their screen. Relationships with them have never been what you might call close, and this is only adding to the tension. I have fitted a new set of points (correctly adjusted) and a new condenser, but to no avail. They are threatening to report me to "The Authorities" and have me stopped from using the car if I don't cure it. I'm not sure what the actual legal position is regarding this, but if I can't cure it can they really stop me from using my P6?.

Regards,
Martin.

Sounds similar to a supressor problem. Perhaps some additional condensors/supressors from the carspares will help. They are not that expensive and fitted to the ignition circuit may help. Having not done this for a long time my recolletion is slim as to the correct nam for these small electrical items and exactly where to fit them (presumably on the low tension side of thedistributor)... Any electricians out there!!!

I'd be interested to know which paticular authority makes sure coach potatos can remain glued to their TV sets without interuption.....keep running the car as is!!

Your Neighbors have the problem. It comes from the mixing of high and low tech equipment. Tell them to get a dish or a cable........or maybe a Rover.

well martin you have several options
buy a second p6 to give him surround sound or
tell him you are considering purchasing a 1956 diesel David Brown tractor.
try putting radio supressors on the coil and altenator (which is normaly a waste of time)
replace the ht leads as they break down over time.
does the car radio crackle with rpm? if it does try removing the v belt and running it for a few moments to see if it still there.
some p6s used to use a metal shield around the distributer to cut interfirencre which was held on by the 2 screws that hold the base plate to the body or lastly tell him he should of bought sky tv

Thanks for all the ideas guys - my car has a dynamo though. Can this be supressed?. I will try fitting the distributor shield - I must admit that my neighbours attitude stinks and I am tempted to just leave it!. They complain about everything I do in my garage - grinding, welding, hammering - even the radio in the garden shed!!.

Does anybody actually know if moaners like this can get us enthusiasts stopped from working on our cars in our own garages or driveways?. Im sure if there is an official channel, my neighbours will take it.

Their only route is via the enviromental health officer at the local concil. He/She will provide them with a chart/log that they will have to fill in with the times/dates/nature of noise/duration etc so as to build up a case. They should however (the enviromental officer) contact you prior to any court/legal proceedings to put your side across and try some mediation. Give them a ring before your neighbour does.

I assume that you live in a house and not an apartment; apartments usually have tenancy agreements that can be restrictive. With a house your neighbours would have to prove that the nature, timing, duration, and intrusiveness (noise, smells) of your activities constituted unreasonable behaviour. If you are simply engaging in your hobbies (i.e. not earning money from these activities) then they face a very difficult task to stop you. You would know yourself if you are being unreasonable --- loud Wagner and lots of metal grinding metal at 1:00am is unreasonable; moderate rap music and metal bashing at 8:00am is reasonable. So if you are being reasonable then tell them --- politely now --- to walk off a plank.

Would you like to borrow any of the following....

1950 Petrol TVO Ferguson Tractor with no exhaust
1976 Triumph Toledo with no back box ( MoTed so you can drive down the road a lot! )
V Large Dodge Diesel Horsebox with three inch exhaust system. ( Latest Toy )
The Merc Transporter - Sure I could drill a hole or two in the back box of that! lol
1965 Rover 2000 - Will provide surround sound as above.
THE SIX WHEEL V8 LAND ROVER!!!!!!!!
(That thing is loud! - no silencers and straight pipes....)

Alternatively I am sure I could bring round the hearse and park it in their drive for a week or two
- that should get the message across.....

Pete
(Who hates people spoiling his fun - so bought a yard in Wales so he can grind and weld and hammer ALL Day and Night)

PS The above is not a complete list of "The Fleet" just some edited highlights....
