Turn signals a bit slow?

My father pointed out to me that the turn signals on Brol are a bit slow. The hazard warning lights are fine, but the turn signals stay on for 2x or 3x the time they are off... If that makes sense. We thought it could be the battery so we charged it up but that didn't help.

Has anyone else had this problem? What could it be?

Edit: all the bulbs are working fine.

Thanks!

As usual Harvey is spot on and to the point.
But there are two flasher units, one for the hazards and one for the indicators.

Just listen for the click to find the correct one.

And they're different, 7FL and 9FL IIRC, and fitting a hazard one to the indicators could cause your problem.

If you modify the circuit slightly you can swap to transistorised relays.... especially as most of the flashers on the market seem to be britpart and less than reliable. I bought 3 before i went transistorised... I never bought one that worked.

AFAIK the flasher relay is 8FL.

Lucas made a range of these though, and the one you need is a Type 36. Other types can give too slow a flash rate.

I ordered the Lucas SFB105 / 35020 FL5 GFU2103. After doing a search on the forums I found that this was the correct replacement, unless I am mistaken.

That link may be right for a Series 1, but not a Series 2.

Have you had a look for the relay that's actually on your car? Behind the driver's glovebox?

Well poo. That's annoying. No, I didn't get a chance - I ordered the part on the train home from work yesterday. It's all good though, I'll send it back (or sell it to someone that needs one here) and order that one AFTER I check the unit itself. Thanks!

And as posted above, you should find 2 relays clipped in there.

Each has 2 spade terminals marked B (battery) and L (load). The slightly larger relay (9FL) is for the hazards and should have a brown cable to the B terminal and a light green with purple tracer to the L terminal.

The flasher relay (8FL) should have a green cable to the B terminal and a light green with brown tracer to the L terminal.

Good luck!
