Triplex roof...

I've heard of this fabled option before but never actually seen one in the flesh (or should that be metal and glass?!) before... Does anybody on here have a P6 with the Triplex roof or does anybody at least have some pictures they'd like to share...?

Here's a few. I would love to get my hands on one of these. (I almost did!)
Here's a shot from the brochure.

Here's the view from inside the car.

Here's a roof that was for sale on Ebay Australia last year. Outside.

And underside.

They were basically a Large piece of Sundym glass bonded into a fiberglass roof frame. I missed out on the Australian one but met a guy here in NZ who had bought it. He was still trying to figure out how to ship it when I met him but I'm hoping i'll get a good look when he gets it.

I expect that a car fitted with one of those would get extremely hot, especially anywhere in Australia.

Not to mention all the sunburn and the increased risk of skin cancer.

Ron.

They would, although they did come with a zip-in headlining that could be removed either completely or just the front or rear half.

Hi
I fry in a black P6B in 30c weather in Montreal, a glass top would really be bad idea . The glass top must have been dreamed up on a foggy day in February in Solihull ; probably by the same genius who installed Ice alerts on the Canadian P6s . I really don't need a silly light which glows for 5 months of the year , to tell me its B!@#$% cold outside!
Cheers

There is at least one in the UK, looked after by Colin Gould at Faringdon. He has a standing order on fancy glue to reglue the glass back into the frame......

Chances of actually seeing one in this lfetime? Close to zero!

Also Reg Mason's Nada v8 replica had one. (is that car still around) I have seen pics of a white s1 V8 in Oz with one and I seem to recall reading in an old P6 News that the late Henk Breuers once had two!

I was looking at bidding on the Aussie one, but couldn't figure out how to get it to the UK without major costs..

There is one that I know of in the States.. looks like there are more than anyone realised out there!

I guess a few have survived. I just remembered that Bob Gardner, former owner of the convertable and a couple of rally cars also had an Arden green series 1 V8 with one. There used to be a website by a guy in the States with pics of a very rusty red TC that he owned in the late seventies too. I wonder if that's the one in the states now?
The one that was on Ebay, the seller had said something like "very rare, only half a dozen or so made it to Australia." I suspect that was a very generous estimate as they supposedly only made 12-15 of them.

I can't remember where I heard this (actually I probably read it somewhere on this forum), but apparently one UK owner of a Triplex glass roof was cruising up the motorway at a fairly high speed when suddenly the glass panel popped up and out of the fibreglass frame, and shattered on the road behind the car. I have no idea if this is true or not, but it helped to hold me back from bidding for the roof that was available from Australian eBay the other year. Apart from the high starting price and the big problem of shipping something fairly fragile of that size safely back to Europe, I didn't really fancy the thought of it parting company with the car on the Autobahn! They do look the business though, eh!?

I think if I was lucky enough to own a Triplex roof I'd only be bolting it on for shows... Even then I'd only put it on when I arrived, I'd be too scared to have it on the car on the move of the above story is true...!

In this day and age, with modern technology, somebody must be able to reproduce them .... Id quite like one, all new and up to modern safety spec.

I still plan on installing the electric "moonroof" which I salvaged from my Taurus onto the 2000TC ,giving it some more ventilation in the warm weather, and more light in the winter. The glass in this one is tinted, AND has a sliding interior shade.Just some cutting and welding needed to install.

I know of an example in Melbourne, Australia, owned by a member of the Victorian Rover Club. I was in Melbourne last year, but was unable to see the car as it had no brakes. Hopefully, I will be able to see the car in the near future.

There is a photo on their website, however it doesnt really show the roof. Yo can check out the photo on the link below:

And of course there is a whole car with the prototype roof, which had a steel surround rather than fibreglass and other minor differences to the "production" 13, for sale in the latest issue of the ROC club magazine!
