Transmission Fluid Leak

very surprised about that as my understanding of autos is limited but everything ive read says they cant be towed more than half a mile ( all autos) as if engine isn't running? theres no oil pressure in box as pump(s) are driven via engine drive train through gearbox and not prop shaft. so an interesting idea but for myself I won't risk it being towed and would call breakdown services OR remove propshaft to allow own towing as I luckily have a son with a Land Rover that can easily tow any car.

The right decision for your car as it's a V8 so wouldn't have had one fitted. Sounds like they were a very limited fitment to the 2000 too & probably to other makes of car as well hence most sources of information very likely ignoring their existence & blanketing all auto's with the 'do not tow' advice.
Now l know of them & their purpose though, if l had a rear pump fitted & had cause to make use of it for towing the car l see no reason why l wouldn't.

as harvey said there we some auto boxes which had a rear pump as well as a front, i seem to recall someone in teh family tow starting an automatic Austin ca

mines an BW65 and reading up on auto boxes it seem lot of variations form manufacturers . some saying slow tow and limited. distance other saying low speeds but longer distances. seems its all about lubrication issues! most just referring you to owners handbook book .whatever that is! mien didnt come with anything other than a V5 form and a few tax discs and old mots.

BW65 never had a rear pump fitted. ISTR the advice on towing was tow up to 25 miles at up to 25mph, and add 1 litre of fluid before doing so, and tbh going at 25mph is in most cases going to frustrate other drivers so I wouldn't bother. If the engine runs, and you leave it running while towing it, you can tow it as far as you like, and as fast as you like.
