Tow bar electrics - flasher unit

At long last I've managed to fit my used tow bar and had a go at connecting the wiring from a standard 12N 7-pin socket. Having now plugged in the bike rack, all works except the flashers go at double speed. Obviously because of the extra current draw from the additional bulb - not surprising. Unsure how to fix this though. Do I fit another flasher downstream of where I've tied in the Left and Right indicator wires? Or do I have to change the turn signal flasher unit for a 4 pin type and run additional wires?

Tried a search in the P6b electrics forum but nothing helpful came up for me. I'd assume this is a common problem but Google not helping much...and as for Google AI response, please don't get me started.

Thanks in advance.

You need a towing flasher can (in place of the original), they usually have four pins. The extra pin is for a dash light to say the trailer is included, which you may or may not wish to avail yourself of. ;)

I replaced my indicator bulbs with leds and changed the flasher unit for an adjustable one, you just turn the screw to speed up/slow down the flashing rate.
Oddly enough, when I tow a trailer with ordinary filament bulbs all the indicators still flash at the rate I’d set despite having a mix of led and filament bulbs on the same flasher unit.
I should add you’re supposed to have an additional trailer indicator warning light but my adjustable one doesn’t have the extra terminal.

Got a hazard flasher unit from Wins...practically next day service. We'll miss Wins when they wind up in a couple of months. It's a round one, so left original cuboid one in place, hooked up the two wires to the two blades on new one and hey presto...Nice regular flashing with bike rack connected or not....perfect. Just tucked the new one up there out of the way. Thanks again Per Anders.
