Today my car made a lady cry

For the last couple of days I have been at Chipping Steam Fair.

When today a couple approached me and started asking about my car, and how I took care of it, where I got it, how long ago, it was like an interview. It transpired the when the first owner died it was sold to the garage which had serviced it all its life, they registered it in their name due to it being an estate sale, I then bought it. The original owner was a retired RAF pilot, who flew Mosquitos, was awarded a DFC, he bought the car new, had it fully restored by Rovers return in 1991/92 (I already had the photos of this) and then never took it out in the rain, and was the lady's father. I open up the car, sat her in the drivers, and left her to her thoughts for a while whilst I found out the above info from her husband who said in the owners latter years when got frailer he, the son in law, would drive him and he always insisted that the old girl got a good blast out. It was quite emotional and she asked for my season itinerary so her sister can see the car later next month.
That's what make the cold days laying in oil, bleeding over your spanners and cursing the design engineers at Rover worth while.

Nice story John . Keep us updated on it . Had a couple of contacts myself through the car this last week . Not as direct and involved as your story , but still good and as you say , worth the blood sweat and grazed knuckles ! :D

Nice story. Its always good to here these things about your car. Gives it a more human feel to them. How they can mean so much.

That's a great story, and it's always nice to find out just a bit more about your car, at the same time as making someone's day. My friends were at Chipping Steam Fair yesterday, and said they'd seen an immaculate Almond P6, with a tiger tail, so I knew it must have been yours! 8)

Several steps better than a Mosquito, no wood or canvas or doped skins  May not look as sexy or go as fast but I would prefer the Rover at least that fits in my garage.

Some might disagree with that statement.

At the end of the war here in NZ, they lined up the Mosquitoes on Wigram military airport runway and set them alight, a complete waste. Worked with a chap who was in the airforce, he worked at the airforce base at the time it was done and he recounted it to me.
