tired alternator - tired alternator

The alternator on my 1973 P6B is getting a bit tired and won´t charge properly, so I´m thinking of getting a new one. Has anyone got any suggestion to other brands or types of alternator than the original Lucas in my car? I would like something that gives a bit more power and is perhaps more reliable. If it´s cheaper than a Lucas from a Roverpartsdealer won´t hurt either.

I have used an Iskra IA0811 70 amp alternator --- these are available in left and right hand configurations, so make sure you get the correct one. It's a perfect swap in the P6B. You may need to use the pulley from your old alternator. The wiring connections require modification, but they're easy. No more slow indicators or dimming headlights while idling at traffic signals!

The other details from the label on the alternator box are: Massey-Ferguson, Cummins, Perkins. 11.201.811. AAK 4599 14V 70A. The bar code is: 3838922054743

Mine cost about €90 in Dublin a year ago.

Good luck!

I have a suspicion that the alternator from a Ford Sierra or Capri with the OHC Pinto engine will fit. They put about 55 amps and should be available in most scrap yards. Never got round to trying it but I'd hope it would cure the ignition light coming on at low revs

I have lucase a127; found on fords and range rovers + other british cars from 70s and 80s. try a scrap yard - paid £10 for mine.

make sure that the pulley is about the same diameter.

I had my old alternator serviced by a local motor factor. It only took a few days, came back like new and cost £26.00. Now works as good as new. :D
