Time to start restoring the 827 !

Hi,
I'm new here and new to the Rover scene altogether really, daily drivers are Volvo's.

In 2003 my father passed away and I decided to keep his 1993 Rover 827 Si Saloon Auto in Nightfire Red in my lockup. I had at first started it every few months but can't honestly remember starting it in the last 10 years.

Well last weekend the father in law and I decided to get it out of the lockup and take it to my house to start the restoration. We pumped up the tyres, drained off all the old fuel, put on new plugs (well 4 cos that's all the motor factors had on Sunday) and a new battery, topped up the water and tried the key. She tried her best to start but doesn't really want to wake up.:(
We tested the compression and all were above 150PSI so don't think compression is the problem.
We think it might be a blocked injector of 4 so are thinking of filling the rail supply pipes with injector cleaner and leaving for a few days. Either that or remove the rail and injectors and leave them to soak in the cleaner. Refitting with new O rings.

As you know, these engines are massively complicated with wires and pipes everywhere. Is there anything else you guys think might be the problem and the reason why she won't start?

I have no expertise on the Honda V6, but I'd be starting with simple stuff. Is there fuel getting to the spark plugs (i.e. are they wet)? Have you checked the air intake tract including filter housing to make sure it's not blocked with a mouse nest or similar? I think that model has a replaceable fuel filter (which you may have already changed when draining the old fuel?) - worth changing.

Most of us on this site are happiest with carburettors and distributors - you might get more specialist advice for the 827 on www.rover800.info.

All the best with the restoration a Nightfire Red saloon has got to be one of the best models :)

Yes, there does seem to be petrol getting to the plugs, they are wet.
I have ordered a new fuel filter (came today actually) and have a new air filter element on order together with a new set of plugs.

It was a lovely car in its time, Grey leather, mobile phone on armrest and map reading lights installed in rear headlining above doors as it was a chauffeur driven car for Lloyds bank before dad bought it.
