Throttle linkage, alternative ?

the P6 is really a well designed car, but the throttle linkage looks like it was done after a long hard christmas meeting of the Rover engineers....
It´s not easy to adjust the kickdown cable with the "flex" in the plastic connector. Rubber bushes new, plastic connector new.
Is there any alternative or tip to get the linkage with less flex ?

As far as I remember the very front of the horizontal rod shouldn't have a split pin in it, it should be just a roll pin.

Think, you´re right. When I reassambled it, I was sure, at the steel coupling there was no splitpin, but there was also no more roll pin....
But here it´s easier to get a solid coupling with a (thicker) splitpin. At the plastic coupling, the roll pins are still in place.

maybe I´ve found a solution. I stressed the internet, found interesting couplings for throttle linkages in marine engines, but then I found a S/S made solid clamp for steel wires, in this case for 8 mm wires. Heavy stuff, cheap (approx 7 GBP). Took out the roll pins and simply clamped both linkages together. Now zero movement between the two parts, everything is now acting as one piece.

Hi, Be careful, with that set up you have one end fixed to the car and the other fixed to the engine with no room for movement, so something is going to wear or bend or break. The original coupling acted as a universal joint.

Damn, just worte my patent application....
You are right. Axial movement should not be a problem, but that´s not the only direction, the engine moves.
Will look, if I get an Oldham-Coupling (expensive...) or will spend some more time with the splitpins. For the automatic car, it´s a little bit a pain, it takes a while when you push the throttle and the 2nd linkage (with the kickdown cable) follows behind.
Thanks for your advice.
