The View From The Windscreen

Great photos Phil :)

We're watching the Heartbeat series with Nick Berry at present and I can see the same unusual archway in your photo that I see in the series :D

Thanks Ron - they're whale bones & have been there since I was a lad (so a long time ;)).

Enjoy the series - there are about 18 'seasons' of about 20 episodes each I think, all filmed around Goathland & Whitby.

Haha, the shops there in Aidensfield :)

Thanks, Richard!

Quick question, why did they make Goathland 'Aidensfield' but kept Whitby as Whitby?

Ron.

More The Sopranos than Heartbeat. but the approach to the George Washington Bridge heading towards NYC. Not that picturesque I must admit.

I believe that Aidensfield is a fictional place made up of many locations, a lot of them in the village of Goathland, but not all. The pub is the Goathland Hotel as in the pic below. It even has the Aidesnfield Arms on the sign on the gable end. It is right opposite Scripp's garage.

The Police Station in Ashfordly is actually in Otley some 70 miles away, as is the Aidesfsield Police House, well in a nearby village anyway.

The series doesn't really give much of an idea to where everything is in relation to others, not even where Ashfordly is compared to Aidesnfield.

Goathland station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway - North Yorkshire Moors Railway - NYMR - is Aidensfield Station and also the Station in the Harry Potter films.

Intriguing! I'm stumped. Was the occupant pedalling? Does it double as a boat? Could your 3500S keep up!? ;)

Its an Aptima isn't it? They're solar powered EVs. Pretty impressive range and speed, reckons on 60 miles of range from 8 hours sitting in the sun.

It's very futuristic, but I know which avant garde vehicle in that photo I'd rather be driving!

Correct mostly. Its Aptera that are manufactured, or strictly speaking prototyped here in Carlsbad.
Super observant types will spot a Triumph Herald in the background. Very rare.

Erika and I went on a trip to Queensland during the second week of July. We travelled to Tenterfield in northern NSW, then up into Queensland through Warwick, Toowoomba, Yarraman, then Bundaberg. The return trip covered some 2300 miles (3700km).

The Great Barrier Reef prevents waves, so on the coast at Bargara, east of Bundaberg, the ocean is very flat.

Power steer is a waste

This photo is on the way out of Toowoomba heading north and then northeast towards Bargara. The distance that day was circa 600km (373 miles).

The road over the top heads east to Brisbane, some 170km away.

Great pics Ron.
We just came back from 3 months north of Cairns 8861km road trip ( including a side trip to Cobbold gorge which has Australia's longest glass bridge) but not in the Rover (Volvo V50)

Thanks, Mike! Wow, almost 9000km, that is quite a trip. I will take the Rover to Cairns one day. A glass bridge at Cobbold Gorge, not heard of either before. I took a look, very impressive scenery, and the bridge with the glass foot plates. Nice piece of engineering!
